Importance: Molecular testing in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is commonly limited by inadequate tumor sample. Plasma cell-free DNA (cfDNA) genotyping as a complementary test is specific but only moderately sensitive. Genotyping of cfDNA in pleural and pericardial effusion (PE-cfDNA) can further optimize molecular diagnostic yield and reduce the need for repeated biopsies.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring epidermal growth receptor (EGFR) mutation has distinct genomic characteristics. Introduction of systemic treatments that specifically targeted actionable EGFR mutations has changed the therapeutic paradigm in this group of patients. Moreover, newer generations of EGFR tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) with superior pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics properties such as dacomitinib and osimertinib, when used in the front-line setting, have shown more favorable treatment outcomes than first-generation EGFR-TKIs.

As the worldwide population ages, oncologists are often required to make difficult and complex decisions regarding the treatment of older people (aged 65 years and older) with cancer. Chronological age alone is often a poor indicator of the physiological and functional status of older adults, and thus should not be the main factor guiding treatment decisions in oncology. By contrast, a geriatric assessment can provide a much more comprehensive understanding of the functional and physiological age of an older person with cancer.

High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) types are associated with cervical cancer. It is well established that individual HPV types vary in oncogenicity, but current data on their prognostic implication remain controversial. We examined the association between HPV types/species and the survival of 236 Chinese women aged 26-87 (mean 54.

Background: Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are a group of haematological malignancies that can be characterised by a somatic mutation (JAK2V617F). This mutation causes the bone marrow to produce excessive blood cells and is found in polycythaemia vera (~95%), essential thrombocythaemia and primary myelofibrosis (both ~50%). It is considered as a major genetic factor contributing to the development of these MPNs.
