The sensitivity and specificity of CA125, as a sole serum marker of endometriosis, are not high enough for routine clinical assessment. To explore new markers for the diagnosis of endometriosis, serum autoantibodies in endometriotic patients were investigated employing a fibroblast cell line, two-dimensional (2D) gel electrophoresis and Western blotting. Giant immature intracranial teratoma with antenatal cranial perforation.

Fetal brain tumors are very rare, and fetal survival is generally poor. Here we present a congenital intracranial immature teratoma, which was prenatally diagnosed. Prenatal ultrasonography and fetal magnetic resonance imaging detected the presence of a massive, heterogeneous intracranial tumor at 26 weeks gestational age.

Disruption of this invasion is associated with deficient uteroplacental circulation, which can lead to the development of preeclampsia (PE) through abnormal expression of adhesion molecules in the placenta and high serum causative factors such as cytokines. Endocervical-type mucinous adenocarcinoma (ECA) of the uterine cervix is defined as a tumor composed of cells resembling those of the endocervical glands, but recent studies have demonstrated that a minority of ECAs displays a gastric immunophenotype. The aim of this study was to assess the significance of the gastric phenotype. Fifty-three cases of mucinous adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix (37 FIGO stage IB, 4 stage IIA, and 12 stage IIB) were reviewed and reevaluated using a newly established morphologic criteria for distinguishing gastric type adenocarcinoma, which was defined as a tumor showing clear and/or pale eosinophilic and voluminous cytoplasm, with distinct cell borders.

Objective: The accumulation of evidence implicates oxidized lipoproteins in atherosclerosis. Treatment of endothelial cells with these lipoproteins stimulates monocyte binding and the production of chemotactic factors that contribute to inflammation and endothelial injury and dysfunction. In preeclampsia, circulating low-density lipoprotein particles, which are susceptible to oxidation, are increased.

Changes in serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor alpha and adhesion molecules in normal pregnant women and those with pregnancy-induced hypertension.

Aim: To study whether serum tumor necrosis factor alpha gene (TNFalpha) and adhesion molecule levels are indicators of the onset of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), we compared levels of these molecules between normal pregnant women and PIH patients from the first to the third trimester.

Methods: We serially measured serum concentrations of TNFalpha, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1), soluble E-selectin (sE-selectin), soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) and soluble P-selectin (sP-selectin) using enzyme immunoassay kits in 10 normal pregnant women and 10 pregnant women who developed PIH late in gestation.

Results: Serum TNFalpha, sICAM-1 and sE-selectin levels in PIH affected women were significantly higher from the first trimester compared with those in normal pregnancy.

Background: Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), a highly dangerous and incompletely understood complication of ovulation induction with exogenous gonadotrophins, can include haemoconcentration, hypovolaemia, hypotension, acute renal insufficiency, thromboembolism and ultimately death. Using intravital microscopy, we examined microvascular permeability and leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions in the rat mesenteric microcirculation associated with induction of ovulation.

Methods: In female rats treated with hMG and hCG, mesenteric venules were observed by intravital microscopy assisted by a video imager.
