Bacteremia and meningitis caused by penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 35B successfully treated with ceftriaxone combined with vancomycin followed by linezolid: A case report.

We herein report a case of bacterial meningitis and bacteremia in a 3-month-old boy caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 35B multidrug resistance. Intravenous ampicillin was administered on admission. However, when pneumococcal meningitis was suspected, the antibiotic treatment was changed to ceftriaxone (CTRX) and vancomycin (VCM).

Evaluation of a nucleic acid amplification system, GENECUBE, for rapid detection of staphylococcal nuc and mecA in blood culture samples.

Objective: This study determined whether the GENECUBE rapid nucleic acid amplification test could directly detect nuc and mecA genes in clinical blood culture samples of Staphylococcus and various other pathogens.

Methods: Between September 2020 and December 2021, 537 blood culture samples from 192 patients with suspected bacteremia were tested using conventional assays (MicroScan WalkAway96 or VITEK 2 systems) and GENECUBE nuc and mecA assays. Isolates from samples with discrepant results between the conventional and GENECUBE assays were further evaluated using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, disk diffusion testing using cefoxitin, broth microdilution testing using oxacillin, and sequencing for mecA.

Background: Human parechovirus type 3 (HPeV-3) is known to cause cold-like symptoms, diarrhea, or severe infections such as sepsis in infants and children. In adults, HPeV-3 infection is rarely diagnosed because the symptoms are generally mild and self-limiting; however, this infection has been linked to epidemic myalgia, regardless of the presence of underlying diseases, immunosuppression, or sex.

Case Presentation: We describe an adult case of severe systemic myalgia and orchiodynia after infection with HPeV-3, which was transmitted from the child of the patient.

Remission of newly diagnosed immune thrombocytopenia after lung cancer resection.

Secondary immune thrombocytopenia is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome of lung cancer. We report a case of pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma with newly diagnosed secondary immune thrombocytopenia. On referral, the patient's complete blood cell count was normal; however, it showed marked thrombocytopenia after 1 month.

[A Good syndrome associated with pure red cell aplasia].

A 78-year-old woman was admitted because of persistent cough, fever and sputum for one week. She had been treated with radiation therapy for inoperable thymoma complicated by severe heart failure and had been suffering from recurrent pneumonia and otitis media since then. A chest radiograph on admission showed an anterior mediastinal mass shadow and infiltrates in the bilateral lower lung fields.

[Tuberculosis associated with hemophagocytic syndrome complicated by treatment with infliximab].

We report a case of tuberculosis associated with hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) which was complicated by treatment with infliximab for Crohn's disease. A 48-year-old woman was admitted because of fever, diarrhea and general malaise. Her condition did not improve with treatment for recurrence of Crohn's disease, and an abnormal shadow was pointed out on chest imaging.
