Antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) are an important class of therapeutics to treat genetic diseases, and expansion of this modality to neurodegenerative disorders has been an active area of research. To realize chronic administration of ASO therapeutics to treat neurodegenerative diseases, new chemical modifications that improve activity and safety profiles are still needed. Furthermore, it is highly desirable to develop a single stereopure ASO with a defined activity and safety profile to avoid any efficacy and safety concerns due to the batch-to-batch variation in the composition of diastereomers.

We clarified the influence of age and sex on estimated daily urinary creatinine excretion (eUCrE) based on the urinary creatinine level and daily urine volume.
Methods: All inpatients aged ≥ 18 years who attended the Kochi Medical School Hospital with serum and urinary creatinine measurement results were enrolled.
The purpose of this study was to visualize the nurses' approach to recording and to identify the causes that lead to overtime. The data used were those related to the performance and entry of nursing tasks (observation and care acts). Data from Hospital A, a provider of acute care with approximately 400 beds, was used.

Methods: This retrospective observational study was performed with the clinical data of all outpatients and inpatients aged ≥ 65 years at the time of enrolment at Kochi Medical School Hospital between 1 January 1981 and 31 December 2021.
Since the discovery of ferroelectricity in a wurtzite-type structure, this structural type has gathered much attention as a next-generation ferroelectric material due to its high polarization value combined with its high breakdown strength. However, the main targets of wurtzite-type ferroelectrics have been limited thus far to simple nitride/oxide compounds. The investigation of new ferroelectric materials with wurtzite-type structures is important for understanding ferroelectricity in such structures.

Causes of death and age of death in individuals with and those without diabetes were compared, and associations between medications used and age of death were statistically analyzed. A total of 2326 deaths were recorded during the 10-year period.

A 75-year-old female patient with no smoking history and mild renal dysfunction developed recurrent lung adenocarcinoma and was initially treated with pembrolizumab immunotherapy followed by chemotherapy using docetaxel showing a certain efficacy but the disease finally progressed. Comprehensive genome profiling showed a novel SLC44A1-BRAF fusion and the tumor progression was controlled with the MEK inhibitor trametinib.

The allylic aryl moiety including a trisubstituted Z-olefin was constructed by hydroboration of a 1,1-disubstituted allene and subsequent Migita-Kosugi-Stille coupling. Although the seco acid proved to be highly unstable even in the presence of weak bases, Zhao macrolactonization under acidic conditions via the α-acyloxyenamide successfully provided the common bislactone intermediate.

This study was therefore carried out to determine whether SAF correlates with the progression of DKD in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). In 350 Japanese people with T2D, SAF values were measured using an AGE Reader, and both urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR), as a biomarker of glomerular injury, and urine liver-type fatty acid-binding protein (uLFABP)-to-creatinine ratio (uL-FABPCR), as a biomarker of tubular injury, were estimated as indices of the severity of DKD.

Although skeletal muscle disorders are often found in diabetic people, the clinical significance of DHEAS in skeletal muscle remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to determine whether DHEAS is associated with the development of skeletal muscle disorders in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Traditionally, people with first-hand experience of psychiatric diagnoses, services users and those living with a psychosocial disability have been seen objects rather than agents of research and knowledge production. This, despite the ethical and practical benefits of their involvement.

In turn, this can alter seed banks in the soil, which are cryptic reservoirs of plant diversity. Here, we use data from seven Nutrient Network grassland sites on four continents, encompassing a range of climatic and environmental conditions, to test the joint effects of fertilization and aboveground mammalian herbivory on seed banks and on the similarity between aboveground plant communities and seed banks.

Physical examination revealed a disturbance in consciousness, nuchal rigidity, painful multiple ulcers in the oral cavity, and erythema, the size of rice grains on the body. Hematological examination showed the following results: white blood cells, 7,910/µl (abnormal lymphocytes 2%), LDH, 203 U/l, corrected calcium, 11.

Phase angle (PhA), ratio of extracellular water to total body water (ECW/TBW) and skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) estimated by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) have been used as prognostic indicators for various chronic diseases and frailty. We aimed to clarify the clinical significance of PhA, ECW/TBW and SMI for anemia in patients with diabetes.

It is of great significance to find and develop multifunctional ceramics with excellent performance and environmental friendliness (such as good energy storage and transparency). Especially, the realization of its excellent performance under low electric fields has more reference and practical value.

Methods: We reviewed data from 5674 patients aged ≥ 18 years receiving cancer treatment at a single hospital facility.
Aim: The prognosis of patients with acute liver failure has improved dramatically in the past three decades due to advances in medical critical care and use of liver transplantation (LT) in Western countries, where the etiology of acute liver failure is different from that in Japan. We analyzed patients with fulminant hepatitis (FH) and late-onset hepatic failure (LOHF) admitted to our unit over a 32-year period to clarify the nature of Japanese patients with FH and LOHF.
Methods: A total of 137 Japanese patients with FH and LOHF between 1986 and 2017 were analyzed for etiologies, disease types, treatment protocols, and outcome.
A copper-catalyzed electrophilic enamidation starting from alkynes is reported. Hydrozirconation of an alkyne with the Schwartz reagent forms a vinyl zirconium intermediate, which directly undergoes a copper-catalyzed electrophilic enamidation with dioxazolones. High functional group tolerance of hydrozirconation enables the use of functionalized alkynes including esters.
