Pointers are difficult learning targets for novice learners of C programming. For such difficult targets, introducing a system visualizing program behaviors is generally expected to support learners to understand the targets. Complete sequence determination of the brachiopod Lingula anatina mtDNA (28,818 bp) revealed an organization that is remarkably atypical for an animal mt-genome. In addition to the usual set of 37 animal mitochondrial genes, which make up only 57% (16,555 bp) of the entire sequence, the genome contains lengthy unassigned sequences. All the genes are encoded in the same DNA strand, generally in a compact way, whereas the overall gene order is highly divergent in comparison with known animal mtDNA.

In this study, we tested brain surface cooling as a new method of inducing selective brain hypothermia, and evaluated its effects on focal cerebral ischemia using a cat model of transient middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion. Cats underwent 1 h of MCA occlusion followed by 5 h of reperfusion. Brain surface cooling was induced for 4 h during and after MCA occlusion in the hypothermia group, but not in the normothermia group.
