Cognitive performance during passive heat exposure in Japanese males and tropical Asian males from Southeast Asian living in Japan.

Background: Heat acclimatization studies have reported that tropical natives have better physiological function to tolerate heat exposure compared to those from temperate natives, in which may result in a better ability to show a better resistance to performance losses during heat stress. In this study, we investigate whether the degree of heat acclimatization affects cognitive abilities during heat exposure by comparing heat acclimatization level of subjects from Southeast Asia and temperate natives from Japan.

Methods: Eleven tropical males from Southeast Asia and ten temperate males from Japan participated in this study and performed two types of cognitive task: short-term memory test and mental arithmetic test, under control and passive heat exposure conditions.

[Usefullness of intrasacral fixation in an extremely unstable lumbosacral spine].

Intrasacral fixation technique devised by Jackson is said to provide rigid lumbosacral fixation. We treated 3 cases of lumbosacral lesions using this technique in which lumbosacral segment had become extremely unstable during surgical intervention adding to the effect of original lesions. In all cases, surgeries were performed in 2 stages, intrasacral fixation and anterior stabilization.

Combined use of TruFill DCS detachable coil system and Guglielmi detachable coil for embolization of meningioma fed by branches of the cavernous internal carotid artery.

A 57-year-old female presented with a left petroclival meningioma fed by the meningohypophyseal trunk of the internal carotid artery (ICA). The enlarged tentorial marginal artery and inferior hypophyseal artery were successfully embolized with the TruFill DCS Detachable Coil System through a 0.019-inch inner diameter microcatheter.

[Embolization for aneurismal dilatation associated with ruptured dissecting anterior inferior cerebellar artery aneurysm with preservation of the parent artery: case report].

We report a rare case of a ruptured dissecting anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) aneurysm treated by endosaccular embolization with a Guglielmi detachable coil (GDC). An 85-year-old female presented with headache. Computed tomographic (CT) scan showed subarachnoid hemorrhage and intraventricular hemorrhage in the fourth ventricule.

[A case of cervical endodermal cyst].

A very rare case involving an endodermal cyst of the cervical spinal canal was documented. In 1999, a 28-year-old male presented with mild tetraplegia due to a traffic accident and consequently, he was admitted to another hospital. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed at that time demonstrated a cervical cord cyst.

[Middle meningeal artery embolization for refractory chronic subdural hematoma: 3 case reports].

The authors present three cases of refractory chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) treated by embolization of the middle meningeal artery (MMA) after several unsuccessful drainage procedures. The patients were initially treated by the usual method of burr hole and irrigation of the hematoma. After recurrence, several percutaneous puncture and drainage procedures were unable to prevent re-collection of the hematoma.
