Introduction Anastomotic leakage (AL) following stoma closure is a significant complication that can lead to increased morbidity and mortality. Identifying risk factors associated with AL is essential for improving surgical outcomes, especially in resource-limited settings like Yemen. Methods We conducted this retrospective study at Al-Thawra Modern General Hospital and the Republican Teaching Hospital Authority in Sana'a, Yemen, between August 2020 and April 2024.

Fundoplication for Pediatric Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: Indications, Techniques, and Outcomes.

Background This study aimed to evaluate the indications, techniques, and outcomes of fundoplication in pediatric patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) at a tertiary hospital in Yemen. Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted at Al-Thawra Modern General Hospital, Sana'a, Yemen, between January 2015 and January 2022. The study included 45 pediatric patients under 18 years of age who underwent fundoplication for GERD.

Impact of Initial Surgical Interventions on Empyema Outcomes: Insights From a Cohort Study in Yemen.

Purpose The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of different initial interventions, including thoracostomy drain tubes, open thoracotomy with decortication, and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thoracoscopy in the management of empyema. Methods This prospective cohort study was conducted at two teaching hospitals in Sana'a, Yemen, over a two-year period from 2022 to 2024. The study included 40 patients diagnosed with empyema, categorized according to the type of initial intervention received.

Outcomes of Nonoperative Management of Penetrating Abdominal Trauma Injury: A Retrospective Study.

Background: The treatment of penetrating abdominal injuries has changed in recent years with more focus on "nonoperative management" (NOM) to avoid unnecessary laparotomies while identifying injuries early. Although the NOM approach is widely used for stab wounds, its effectiveness in managing abdominal gunshot wounds is controversial. NOM of penetrating abdominal injuries is becoming more dependent on hemodynamic stability and improved noninvasive radiological interventions.

Surgical Management and Predictors of Postoperative Complications of Retrosternal Goiters: A Retrospective Study.
