Botulinum neurotoxin-A in idiopathic chondrolysis: a report of two cases.

Two cases of idiopathic chondrolysis were treated by botulinum neurotoxin-A injections, with a favorable outcome. The treatment consisted of botulinum neurotoxin-A injections, followed by an intensive rehabilitation program. No surgery was needed.

Complications of intrathecal baclofen pump: prevention and cure.

Increasingly, spasticity is managed with surgically implanted Intrathecal Baclofen pumps. Performance and complications associated with the synchromed 10-ml infusion pump for intrathecal baclofen administration in children.

Object: The objectives of this multicenter study were to monitor the performance of a 10-ml pump infusing intrathecal baclofen to treat 100 children with cerebral spasticity, to monitor complications associated with the pump, and to correlate pump-related complications with body habitus.

Some drugs currently used to treat tics in pediatric patients have drawbacks, including the risk of side effects. New therapeutic options with better safety profiles are needed. Levetiracetam is an antiepileptic drug with atypical mechanisms of action that might be beneficial for this indication.

Functional assessment following intrathecal baclofen therapy in children with spastic cerebral palsy.

The purpose of this article is to describe outcomes of intrathecal baclofen therapy for 29 patients with cerebral palsy, focusing on impairments, functional limitations, and disability. Patients received individualized rehabilitation and were followed up to 24 months. The primary outcome measures were the Ashworth Scale and the functional skills and caregiver assistance scales of the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI).
