The prevalence of cardiovascular disease, oxidative stress-related complications, and chronic age-related illnesses is gradually increasing worldwide. Several causes include the ineffectiveness of medicinal treatment therapies, their toxicity, their inability to provide radical solutions in some diseases, and the necessity of multiple drug therapy in certain chronic diseases. It is therefore necessary for alternative treatment methods to be sought.

Tobacco Smoking and Survival Following a Diagnosis with Ovarian Cancer.

Background: Little is known about the influence of smoking on ovarian cancer survival. We investigated this relationship in a hospital-based study.

Methods: Analyses included 519 women with ovarian cancer.

Downregulation of collagen XI during late postnatal corneal development is followed by upregulation after injury.

Collagen XI plays a role in nucleating collagen fibrils and in controlling fibril diameter. The aim of this research was to elucidate the role that collagen XI plays in corneal fibrillogenesis during development and following injury. The temporal and spatial expression of collagen XI was evaluated in C57BL/6 wild-type mice.

Intraluminal Stent Optimization for the Baerveldt Glaucoma Implant: An Experimental Study.

Precis: Our laboratory study determined the approximate suture diameter for use in intraluminal stenting of the Baerveldt glaucoma implant (BGI) to prevent postoperative hypotony. Commercial 3-0 monofilament nylon sutures which are commonly used may vary significantly outside of this diameter.

Purpose: Postoperative hypotony is a complication of surgical treatment of glaucoma using the BGI.
