- The study aimed to see how often infections happen in patients who had abdominal surgery and to compare those who had surgery planned ahead (elective) versus those who had surgery unexpectedly (emergency).
- They examined 140 patients and found that 26 of them (about 19%) got infections after their surgery.
- It turns out that infections were more common in emergency surgeries, with 19 out of 140 patients infected, compared to just 7 out of 140 for elective surgeries.
