The effect of lavender and rosemary aromatherapy application on cognitive functions, anxiety, and sleep quality in the elderly with diabetes.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effects of aromatherapy use on cognitive function, anxiety, and sleep quality in the elderly with diabetes.

Methods: The study was conducted with 63 participants aged 65 and over. Participants were randomly divided into three groups: lavender, rosemary and control groups.

Validation of the scale of assessment of self-care behaviours for arteriovenous fistula in patients ongoing haemodialysis in Turkey.

Background: Several guidelines recommend that patients with chronic kidney disease treated by haemodialysis (HD) take care of their own arteriovenous fistula (AVF). The dialysis nurse plays an important role in the development of such self-care behaviours. A very small number of instruments are available to assess self-care behaviours with AVF in Turkey.

The Effect on Nausea and Vomiting of Structured Education Given to Male Lung Cancer Patients Receiving Chemotherapy.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect on nausea and vomiting of structured education given to male lung cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. This quasi-experimental research study had pre- and post-tests control groups. The estimated sample size was at least 20 subjects per group.

Predictors of foot care behaviours in patients with diabetes in Turkey.

Background: The management of diabetic foot complications is challenging, time-consuming and costly. Such complications frequently recur, and the feet of individuals with diabetes can be easily infected. The variables that predict foot care behaviours must be identified to improve foot care attitudes and behaviours.

Importance of social support in cancer patients.

Social support is regarded as a complex construct which has long been suggested to have direct and buffering effects on patients' wellbeing and emotional adjustment to cancer. Cross-sectional and prospective studies show a positive association between perceived social support and psychological adjustment following cancer treatment. Research findings suggest that the evidence for the relationship between social support and cancer progression is sufficiently strong.

Nursing students' attitudes toward ageism in Turkey.

This research involved a descriptive study with the goal of examining the attitudes of 145 Turkish nursing students studying toward ageism and the factors affecting ageism views. A Student Description Form and the Ageism Attitude Scale (AAS) were the data collection instruments used in this study. Statistical evaluation of the data included percentage, median and Kruskal Wallis Test and Mann-Whitney U-test.

Comparison of knowledge and practices of breast self examination (BSE): a pilot study in Turkey.

Objectives: The aim of this descriptive study was to determine breast self examination (BSE) knowledge and practice of middle-aged females.

Methodology: The study population comprised over 40 year old women (n=252) and nurses (n=29) working in a total of seven family health centers in Bolu, Turkey. Data were obtained through face to face interviews from September 2007 to January 2008.
