Introduction: The objective of the present study was to evaluate morphine consumption and pain scores 24 h postoperatively to compare the effects of a bilateral External Oblique Intercostal (EOI) block with those of a Modified Thoracoabdominal Nerve Block Trough Perichondrial Approach (M-TAPA) block in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG).

Methods: Fifty-eight patients aged between 18 and 65 years of with American Society of Anesthesiologists class II-III were included in this randomized, double-blinded study. Patients were assigned into two groups either EOI block or M-TAPA block.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the pain relief effectiveness of two nerve blocks, anterior quadratus lumborum block (QLB3) and erector spinae plane block (ESPB), on patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL).
  • Conducted between February and July 2023, the study included 96 patients divided into three groups: QLB3, ESPB, and a control group with no block, with various pain and analgesic measures documented post-surgery.
  • Results showed that both QLB3 and ESPB had similar morphine consumption and analgesia success in the first 24 hours postoperatively, while the control group needed significantly more pain relief, indicating that both blocks were effective for postoperative

Inability to remain motionless owing to pain during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may increase the need for sedation and analgesia. Here, we present a case where ultrasound-guided sacral erector spinae plane block (ESPB) was used successfully for pain management during an MRI in a patient suffering from severe sacral pain. Sacral ESPB was performed with a total of 30 mL of 0.

Introduction: Recovery from anesthesia is complex and affected by multiple factors. In patient with obesity, the increased prevalence of anxiety and depressive disorders poses a challenge in achieving optimal patient satisfaction. Therefore, strategies to enhance the quality of recovery are crucial for this population.

Background: Quadratus lumborum block is a relatively new truncal block and different approaches to this block have been described. With a recent modification to the subcostal approach to the anterior quadratus lumborum block (QLB3), the injection point was moved further cranially and medially, thereby aiming to enhance the spread of the local anesthetic into the thoracic paravertebral space. Although the level of blockade achieved with this modification seems sufficient for open nephrectomy, the modification is still for clinical evaluation.

Background: Colorectal cancer is quite common, and surgery is the most effective treatment for most patients. However, postoperative pain management is generally inadequate in most patients. This study aimed to determine the effect of ultrasonography (USG)-guided preemptive erector spina plan block (ESPB), as part of multimodal analgesia, on postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery.

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease native to West and Central Africa that is now becoming a global public health concern. By August 19, 2022, approximately 40,220 cases of monkeypox in 94 countries were reported outside the endemic region. Anesthesiologists are at high risk of exposure to infection, given the potential for respiratory transmission of the virus.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of ketamine, dexmedetomidine, and lidocaine infusions added to the multimodal analgesia regimen on pain scores and analgesic requirement in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Design: A prospective randomized double-blind trial. Seventy-three patients aged 18 to 65 years (ASA II-III) undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy were included.

Study Objective: Breast cancer is quite common in women, and surgery is the most effective treatment in most cases. This study compared the effects of ultrasound (US)-guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB) and pectoserratus plane block (PSPB) on the postoperative opioid consumption and acute and chronic pain in patients after breast cancer surgery.

Design: Prospective, randomized, single-blind.

Background: Dexmedetomidine is a potent and highly selective alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonist with sympatholytic, sedative, anxiolytic and analgesic properties. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of a dexmedetomidine infusion in liver transplant recipients in the early postoperative period on early and smooth extubation.

Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of 21 patients undergoing liver transplantation between December 1, 2018 and February 31, 2020.

Introduction In this study, our objective was to compare the lateral sagittal infraclavicular block (LS-ICB) with the costoclavicular infraclavicular block (CC-ICB) for ultrasound (US)-guided infraclavicular brachial plexus block in terms of block dynamics as well as patient and surgeon satisfaction levels. Methods A total of 100 patients, falling under the American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) I-III categories, who were aged 18-65 years and scheduled for elective forearm and hand surgery were enrolled in the study. The patients were randomly allocated to receive a US-guided LS-ICB or US‑guided CC-ICB.

Purpose: Tremendous physical and psychological pressure has been placed on health care workers because of the outbreak of novel coronavirus disease 2019. This study aimed to examine the anxiety and depression levels and related factors among health care professionals working in operating theaters (anesthetic technicians and nurses) during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Design: The universe of this descriptive study consisted of health care professionals working in operating theaters in various health care institutions in Turkey.

Aim: This study aimed to examine the prognostic significance of the perfusion index (PI) in mechanically ventilated patients.

Methods: Study included sixty patients who had the risk factors for the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome and received mechanical ventilator (MV) support in intensive care unit (ICU) unit between January 2017/January 2018. The demographic characteristics, vital signs, blood gas parameters, lactate levels, prognostic scores, and use of inotropic drugs were recorded.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. This study aims to evaluate the knowledge of anesthesiology specialists and residents in Turkey about COVID-19 and their attitudes toward the strategies and application methods to be used for a suspected/confirmed COVID-19 case that needs to be operated on or followed up in an intensive care unit, as well as to raise awareness about this issue. This descriptive study comprised anesthesiology specialists and residents working in various health institutions in Turkey.

Background And Objectives: Intrathecal administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is more efficacious for post-operative pain management. Cyclooxygenase inhibiting non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like (S)-(+)-Ketoprofen, may be effective at lower intrathecal doses than parenteral ones. Preclinical safety regarding possible neurotoxicity associated with the intrathecal (S)-(+)-Ketoprofen was not evaluated.
