Jakun, a Proto-Malay subtribe from Peninsular Malaysia, is believed to have inhabited the Malay Archipelago during the period of agricultural expansion approximately 4 thousand years ago (kya). However, their genetic structure and population history remain inconclusive. In this study, we report the genome structure of a Jakun female, based on whole-genome sequencing, which yielded an average coverage of 35.

Methods: We recruited 19 immunocompromised children (post-solid organ transplantation, have autoimmune disease or were on current or recent chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia), and followed them from the start of primary vaccination with BNT162b2 mRNA SARS-CoV-2 until 1-year post-vaccination. We investigated the quality of vaccine immunogenicity, and longevity of hybrid immunity, in comparison to healthy children.
Background/objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus has exposed the vulnerabilities and unpreparedness of the global healthcare system in dealing with emerging zoonoses. In the past two decades, coronaviruses (CoV) have been responsible for three major viral outbreaks, and the likelihood of future outbreaks caused by these viruses is high and nearly inevitable. Therefore, effective prophylactic universal vaccines targeting multiple circulating and emerging coronavirus strains are warranted.

Most Gallbladder neuroendocrine neoplasms (GB-NENs) are discovered incidentally during pathological examinations post-cholecystectomy.

Objectives: The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the disparity in survival outcomes between upfront surgery and upfront concurrent chemoradiotherapy as the primary treatment modality in patients with HPSCC.
Design: Systemic review with meta-analysis.
Purpose: The aim of this was to evaluate the prognostic significance of the nodal-to-primary tumor SUV max ratio (NTR) in patients with node-positive hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC) treated with radiotherapy with or without concurrent chemotherapy. The study aims to enhance prognostic accuracy by incorporating NTR into the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective study included 191 patients with biopsy-proven node-positive HPSCC treated from 2005 to 2013.
Comprehending the replication kinetics of SARS-CoV-2 variants helps explain why certain variants spread more easily, are more contagious, and pose a significant health menace to global populations. The replication kinetics of the Malaysian isolates of Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omicron variants were studied in the Vero E6 cell line. Their replication kinetics were determined using the plaque assay, quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), and the viral growth curve.

PI(4)P and PI(3)P are two major phosphoinositides crucial for endolysosomal functions and dynamics, making them the lipids of interest in many studies. The acute modulation of phosphoinositides at a given organelle membrane can reveal important insights into their cellular function.

Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), a transcriptional factor that maintains intracellular redox equilibrium, modulates the expression of antioxidant genes, scavenger receptors, and cholesterol efflux transporters, all of which contribute significantly to foam cell development and plaque formation. Nrf2 has recently emerged as a key regulator that connects autophagy and vascular senescence in atherosclerosis. Autophagy, a cellular mechanism involved in the breakdown and recycling of damaged proteins and organelles, and cellular senescence, a state of irreversible growth arrest, are both processes implicated in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.

Breast cancer in Malaysia is also unfortunately the most prevalent in Malaysian women. Many treatment options are available for breast cancer, but there is increasing resistance developed against treatment and increased recurrence risk, emphasizing the need for new treatment options.

This study aims to unravel the role of p16INK4a in mediating macrophage foam cells formation, cellular senescence, and autophagy lysosomal functions.

A power equivalent continuous approximation of B power was usually applied to accelerate the analysis. In line with recent consensus recommendations from the CEST community for pulsed-CEST at 3T, particularly recommending a high RF saturation power (B = 2.

Methods: We performed a prospective observational study, enrolling adults aged 19-59 years in Dong Thap province, southern Vietnam, and collected blood samples from baseline until 4 weeks after the booster dose. We measured anti-nucleocapsid, anti-spike, and neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and assessed the cross-neutralization against 14 SARS-CoV-2 variants and SARS-CoV-1.

Objectives: The aim of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the potential benefits of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) in patients with pN1 oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma.
Methods: A literature search through major databases was conducted until January 2023. The adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) or risk ratio (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of different survival outcomes were extracted and pooled.
Objective: The lymph node to primary tumor standardized uptake value ratio (NTR) is an innovative parameter derived from positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scans that captures the intricate relationship between primary tumors and associated lymph nodes. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the prognostic value of NTR in cancer patients.
Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases was conducted to identify studies investigating the association between NTR and survival outcomes in cancer patients.
Current coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines face limitations including waning immunity, immune escape by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants, limited cellular response, and poor mucosal immunity. We engineered a Clec9A-receptor binding domain (RBD) antibody construct that delivers the SARS-CoV-2 RBD to conventional type 1 dendritic cells. Compared with non-targeting approaches, single dose immunization in mice with Clec9A-RBD induced far higher RBD-specific antibody titers that were sustained for up to 21 months after vaccination.

To emulate the structural complexity of traditional meat, the development of animal-free and edible scaffolds is crucial, providing vital physical and biological support during tissue development. The aligned vascular bundles of the decellularised asparagus scaffold were selected to facilitate the attachment and alignment of murine myoblasts (C2C12) and porcine adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (pADMSCs).

Introduction: Minimally invasive percutaneousosteosynthesis (MIPO) plating techniques havedemonstrated good outcomes in the treatment of distal tibia fractures. Early arthritis and functional impairment mayoccur if length and rotation are not restored. This study aims to determine the incidence and severity of tibia malrotation following MIPO plating of isolated unilateral distal tibia fractures, defined as torsional difference of greater than 10° as compared to the contralateral limb and whether the degree of malrotation affects functional outcomes scores.
