Event-based cameras offer unique advantages over traditional cameras, such as high dynamic range, absence of motion blur, and microsecond-level latency. This paper introduces an innovative approach to visual odometry, to our knowledge, by integrating the newly proposed Rotated Binary DART (RBD) descriptor within a Visual-Inertial Navigation System (VINS)-based event visual odometry framework. Our method leverages event optical flow and RBD for precise feature selection and matching, ensuring robust performance in dynamic environments.

However, it is still challenging to convey scene information to visually impaired people efficiently. In this paper, we propose three different auditory-based interaction methods, i.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOxidative stress is a widely recognized cause of cell death associated with neurodegeneration, inflammation, and aging. Tyrosine nitration in these conditions has been reported extensively, but whether tyrosine nitration is a marker or plays a role in the cell-death processes was unknown. Here, we show that nitration of a single tyrosine residue on a small proportion of 90-kDa heat-shock protein (Hsp90), is sufficient to induce motor neuron death by the P2X7 receptor-dependent activation of the Fas pathway.

We hypothesized that targeting an antioxidant to the mitochondria would prevent oxidative damage and attenuate the steatosis associated with alcoholic liver disease. To test this we investigated the effects of mitochondria-targeted ubiquinone (MitoQ) (5 and 25 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks) in male Sprague-Dawley rats consuming ethanol using the Lieber-DeCarli diet with pair-fed controls.

Decreased activities of key tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA) cycle enzymes may underlie this abnormality and are highly correlated to the clinical state of the patient. The activity of the α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex (KGDHC), an arguably rate-limiting enzyme of the TCA cycle, declines with AD, but the mechanism of inactivation and whether it can be reversed remains unknown.

We hypothesized that a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant would prevent kidney damage in the Ins2(+/)⁻(AkitaJ) mouse model (Akita mice) of Type 1 diabetes. To test this we orally administered a mitochondria-targeted ubiquinone (MitoQ) over a 12-week period and assessed tubular and glomerular function.

However, the removal of zinc from either mutant or wild-type SOD results in apoptosis of motor neurons through a copper- and peroxynitrite-dependent mechanism. It has also been shown that motor neurons isolated from transgenic mice expressing mutant SODs survive well in culture but undergo apoptosis when exposed to nitric oxide via a Fas-dependent mechanism.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAlthough peroxynitrite stimulates apoptosis in many cell types, whether peroxynitrite acts directly as an oxidant or the induction of apoptosis is because of the radicals derived from peroxynitrite decomposition remains unknown. Before undergoing apoptosis because of trophic factor deprivation, primary motor neuron cultures become immunoreactive for nitrotyrosine. We show here using tyrosine-containing peptides that free radical processes mediated by peroxynitrite decomposition products were required for triggering apoptosis in primary motor neurons and in PC12 cells cultures.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTyrosine nitration is a common modification to proteins in vivo, but the reactive nitrogen species responsible for nitration are often studied in vitro using just the amino acid tyrosine in simple phosphate solutions. To investigate which reactive nitrogen species could nitrate proteins in a complex biological system, we exposed rat heart and brain homogenates to peroxynitrite, nitric oxide under aerobic conditions, and other putative nitrating agents. Peroxynitrite was by far the most efficient nitrating agent when alternative targets were available to compete with tyrosine.
