Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are progressively becoming novel instruments for clinical therapeutics and liquid biopsies. Due to the complexity of biofluids and the physicochemical properties of EVs, the biological activity, velocity, and efficiency of EV isolation are always unsatisfying. Here, we present a real-time isolation approach of EVs derived from cells and urine using ordered porous layer interferometry with a silica colloidal crystal film as the sensing substrate, achieving efficiency greater than 90%.

Article Synopsis
  • PEEK is a promising bone substitute material due to its elastic modulus resembling natural bone, but it suffers from limitations like poor osseointegration and sterility issues.
  • RNA interference techniques are being utilized to enhance PEEK implants, by coating them with an antibacterial agent (pTAN) and using siCKIP-1 to boost osseointegration and fight infections.
  • The modified PEEK implants show improved biocompatibility and promote the growth of bone cells in lab tests, highlighting the potential for better implant materials in clinical applications.

Purpose: The axon guidance factors and Rho/ROCK pathway play crucial roles in axon protection and nerve repair and has been implicated in the development of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). This study investigates the protective effects of quercetin against DPN, focusing on axon guidance factors and Rho/ROCK pathway.

Methods: DPN was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) to Sprague-Dawley rats.

B12-Independent glycerol dehydratase (GD) is a glycyl radical enzyme in the biotransformation of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol. GD requires the activating enzyme GD-AE to initiate the radical reaction. GD-AE belongs to the radical -adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) enzyme superfamily.
