Hypersaline mariculture wastewater necessitates treatment prior to its discharge into marine environments. Algal-mycelial pellets (AMPs), known for their cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency and sustainability, have not been previously explored for their flocculation and pollutant removal capabilities in hyperhaline conditions. This work employed an orthogonal test design to investigate the effects of nine factors at three levels on the treatment efficiency of mariculture wastewater using Chlorella sp.

They are difficult to be completely removed in sewage treatment plants due to their high stability under different conditions. The incomplete removal of PS poses a threat to the aquatic animals and can also lead to human health problems through accumulation in the food chain.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOdontothrips loti (Haliday) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) is one of the most serious pests on alfalfa, causing direct damage by feeding and indirect damage by transmitting plant viruses. This damage causes significant loss in alfalfa production. Semiochemicals offer opportunities to develop new approaches to thrips management.

Whether free pigments can act as photosensitizers to drive biophotoelectrochemical metabolism in nonphotosynthetic microorganisms has not been reported. In this work, we provide direct evidence for the photoelectrophic relationship between extracellular chlorophyll a (Chl a) and nonphotosynthetic microorganisms.

These receptors serve as primary targets for various insecticides, including noncompetitive antagonists (NCAs) such as cyclodiene organochlorines and phenylpyrazoles, as well as allosteric modulators like meta-diamides and isoxazolines. This study focuses on a newly discovered A2'N mutation within the RDL receptors, identified in fipronil-resistant planthoppers.

The lack of a well-assembled genomic resource has hindered our understanding of the genetic basis and evolution of F. intonsa.

This study aims to elucidate AB's ideal host switch pattern and assess its utility in maintaining synchronization between AB and PSS, thereby aiding in PSS control. We examined various host switch patterns and cycles to evaluate their impact on AB's offspring's parasitism rates and fitness in laboratory conditions.

High energy consumption and chemical input are still the challenges for ammonia recovery from MSW leachate. Here, a single-stream microbial desalination cell (SMDC) was successfully developed for simultaneous energy extraction from organic contaminant and in-situ energy utilization for ammonia recovery.

To investigate the pollution characteristics of PhACs in Guangdong Province, raw sewage was collected from 186 sewage treatment plants in 21 cities, including 178 townships and administrative districts in Guangdong Province. The pollution levels of ten typical PhACs in influent water of sewage treatment plants were analyzed using automatic solid phase extraction and high performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry.

Chemical compounds play an important role in these interactions. Several studies reported that the plant virus tomato spotted wilt orthotospovirus (TSWV) increases host plant quality for its vector and benefits the vector thrips .

The overuse of chemical insecticides for controlling this pest results in insecticide resistance, environmental pollution and toxicity to other non-target organisms. Therefore, a sustainable and efficient way for pest management is urgently required.

The fall armyworm (FAW) is a destructive and polyphagous pest of many essential food crops including maize and rice. The FAW is hard to manage, control, or eradicate, due to its polyphagous nature and voracity of feeding. Here, we report the characterization and functional analysis of the detoxification gene and how larvae use a detoxification mechanism to adapt host plants.
