Yes-associated protein (YAP), a pivotal transcriptional co-activator in cell growth regulation, exerts its function through interactions with transcriptional factors like TEAD. Ectopic activation of YAP causes excessive cell proliferation, leading to multiple human diseases, including cancers. However, current pharmacological YAP inhibition lacks specificity and may have unintended effects, necessitating the development of direct YAP-derived inhibitors.

We report the influence of spontaneous lattice distortion on the helical spin spiral states in centrosymmetric helimagnet MnCoSi. With the help of in situ Lorentz transmission electron microscopy, we observed significant distortion─up to 57%─in the helical spin order of MnCoSi thin lamella samples. Our analysis, integrating density functional theory calculations with micromagnetic simulations, confirmed that the spontaneous lattice distortion is induced by the variation in the specimen thickness, which therefore modulates the nearest-neighbor exchange interaction and the next-nearest-neighbor exchange interaction , leading to a change in the spin rotational periodicity.

Functional soft materials that swell in water often exhibit surface wrinkling, similar to the ridges formed on human skin after prolonged immersion, typically leading to reduced optical transmittance. Surprisingly, there is a scarcity of materials that are transparent underwater yet opaque in air, despite their vast potential in applications such as smart windows, periscopes, and information encryption. Herein, we report a hydrogel-based system comprising a polyacrylamide layer on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), demonstrating a reversible transition between opacity in air and high transparency in water or wet conditions.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been transformative in the treatment of patients with metastatic melanoma, but primary and secondary resistance to ICI treatment is common. One key mechanism for ICI resistance is the skewing of the immune response from a cytotoxic (Th1) to a chronic inflammatory (Th2) profile. The small molecule ibrutinib is a dual-target agent that inhibits Bruton's Tyrosine Kinase (BTK) and Interleukin-2-inducible T-cell Kinase (ITK), a key regulator of Th2 immunity.

Organic-inorganic hybrid Sn(IV)-based metal halides have received wide attention due to their excellent structural stability. However, realizing red-emitting Sn(IV)-based metal halides with high stability and efficient photoluminescence (PL) efficiency remains challenging. Here, a stable organic-inorganic Sn(IV)-based metal halide (CHON)SnCl with a zero-dimensional (0D) structure has been obtained, which, however, displays poor PL properties due to the inert expression of Sn-4d electrons and the intrinsic indirect band gap feature.

Epithelial homeostasis ensures that the epithelium can perform its normal physiological functions. Mechanical signaling response through integrin-mediated adhesions of the basement membrane (BM) is crucial for maintaining epithelial homeostasis. The essential mechanosensors YAP and the paralog TAZ (YAP/TAZ) have been shown to play a critical role in epithelial homeostasis, but the key regulator that mediates mechanical signaling to YAP/TAZ in maintaining epithelial homeostasis has not been fully understood.

The maintenance of epithelial homeostasis is essential for preserving tissue architecture and function, and the transcriptional co-activators YAP/TAZ are central to this regulatory network. Although the Hippo-YAP/TAZ-TEAD axis is known to govern epithelial integrity, it remains unclear to what extent Hippo-controlled YAP/TAZ activity overlaps with, or diverges from, YAP/TAZ-TEAD-dependent transcriptional programs in maintaining epithelial homeostasis. Here, we address this question by employing two complementary mouse models: "SuperHippo," which suppresses YAP/TAZ activity through enhanced Hippo pathway engagement, and "TEADi," which selectively disrupts YAP/TAZ-TEAD interactions.

We show that the ground-state expectation value of twisting operator is a topological order parameter for U(1)- and Z_{N}-symmetric symmetry-protected topological (SPT) phases in one-dimensional "spin" systems-it is quantized in the thermodynamic limit and can be used to identify different SPT phases and to diagnose phase transitions among them. We prove that this (nonlocal) order parameter must take values in Nth roots of unity, and its value can be changed by a generalized lattice translation acting as an N-ality transformation connecting distinct phases. This result also implies the Lieb-Schultz-Mattis (LSM) ingappability for SU(N) spins if we further impose a general translation symmetry.
