This study evaluated the ability of the triglyceride (TG) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio to identify individuals at risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) population. We retrospectively studied 4,769 patients with NAFLD from the Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University (2020-2023). Binary logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between the TG/HDL-C ratio and lipid parameters with T2DM.

This study aimed to estimate the global burden of glaucoma due to metabolic risk over the past 30 years.
Methods: The number and rate of deaths, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and age-standardized rates (ASRs) for metabolic risk factors-induced glaucoma were extracted.

Lipid disorders are related to the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Remnant cholesterol (RC), a nonclassical and once-neglected risk factor for NAFLD, has recently received new attention. In this study, we assessed the relationship between the RC levels and NAFLD risk.

The increased prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) worldwide has contributed to the rising incidence of NAFLD. It is widely believed that atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is associated with NAFLD.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) frequently results in compromised visual function, with hyperglycemia-induced disruption of the blood-retinal barrier (BRB) through various pathways as a critical mechanism. Existing DR treatments fail to address early and potentially reversible microvascular alterations. This study examined the effects of empagliflozin (EMPA), a selective Sodium-glucose transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, on the retina of db/db mice.

It is recognized as a multifactorial disease, with dyslipidemia being closely associated with the progression of coronary atherosclerosis. Numerous studies have confirmed the relationship between a single indicator of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) or high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and CHD.

Metabolic syndrome is a medical condition characterized by several metabolic disorders in the body. Long-term metabolic disorders raise the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Therefore, it is essential to actively explore the aetiology of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its comorbidities to provide effective treatment options.

Methods: 56 CHD patients with NAFLD were randomly divided into an experimental group and control group. The control group was treated by conventional western medicines, while the experimental group was given Shenxiang Suhe Pill in addition to the treatment of the control group.

Background: With the gradual adoption of new metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) definitions in clinical practice, the relationship between MAFLD and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk remains unclear. Similarly, clinical differences between MAFLD and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and the relationship between MAFLD and CVD risk are unclear.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study using the 1988-1994 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES III) database, including 11,673 individuals.
To investigate the effects of mining activities on mercury (Hg) enrichment in farmland soil, soil samples were collected from four villages (Xinjian Village, Yehu Village, Xinhu Village and Hucheng Village) in the vicinity of Xinqiao Mining Area, Tongling. Hg concentration was measured by atomic fluorescence spectrophotometer. The geo-accumulation index was used to evaluate the Hg pollution level of the soils.

Methods: A total of 64 female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into a control group, a low-dose hyaluronidase (1 mg/mL) group, a high-dose hyaluronidase (4 mg/mL) group and a hyaluronic acid-treated group. Hyaluronidase was given intravesically three times a week for 1 month.
Objective: To investigate the relationship of liver enzymes with hyperglycemia in a large population in Shanghai and identify the association between liver enzymes and insulin resistance.
Methods: A total of 3 756 participants were enrolled. Each participant underwent an oral glucose tolerance test and completed a questionnaire.
Aims: To evaluate the role of inflammation in vascular endothelial function of hyperlipidemic rabbits and atorvastatin's effects on it.
Methods: 22 rabbits were divided into high-fat diet and atorvastatin plus high-fat diet group. Basic levels of total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride, C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), nitric oxide (NO), endothelin-1 (ET-1), fasting blood glucose (FBG), insulin and endothelial function were measured when grouping.
Objective: To investigate the frequency of variants at Xmn I, Msp I sites of apolipoprotein (Apo), A I-CIII-AIV gene cluster, and its relation to cholesterol gallstones in Chinese patients.
Methods: Restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP) at Xmn I, Msp I sites of ApoAI-CIII-AIV gene cluster were studied using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in 161 patients with cholesterol gallstones and 94 healthy subjects from a Chinese population in Sichuan Province.
Results: In both the cholesterol gallstone group and the healthy control group, X1 and M1 alleles were the major alleles and homozygous X1X1 and M1M1 genotypes were the most frequent.
