Isoflavone occurs abundantly in leguminous seeds in the form of glycoside and aglycone. However, isoflavone glycoside has anti-nutritional effect and only the free type is beneficial to human health. In the present study we identified a β-glucosidase from thermophilic Neosartorya fischeri P1, termed NfBGL1, capable of efficiently converting isoflavone glycosides into free isoflavones.

The function of subcutaneous adipocytes in promoting wound healing is significantly suppressed in diabetic wounds. Recent studies have demonstrated the ability of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) to ameliorate impaired diabetic wound healing. We hypothesized that MSC function may involve subcutaneous adipocytes.

This paper is aimed to study the effect of ADL on expression of β1-AR and M2-AchR in myocardial cells of rats exposed to microwave radiation. Immunohistochemistry, Western blot and image analysis were used to detect the expression of β1-AR and M2-AchR in myocardial cells at 7 and 14 d after microwave exposure. The results show that the expression level was higher in microwave exposure group and 0.

Efficient degradation of plant polysaccharides in rumen requires xylanolytic enzymes with a high catalytic capacity. In this study, a full-length xylanase gene (xynA) was retrieved from the sheep rumen. The deduced XynA sequence contains a putative signal peptide, a catalytic motif of glycoside hydrolase family 10 (GH10), and an extra C-terminal proline-rich sequence without a homolog.

A multimodular pectinase of glycoside hydrolase family 28, S6A, was identified in Penicillium oxalicum SX6 that consists of an N-terminal catalytic domain of pectin methylesterase, a Thr/Ser-rich linker region, and a C-terminal catalytic domain of polygalacturonase. Recombinant S6A and its two derivatives, S6PE (the catalytic domain of pectin methylesterase) and S6PG (the catalytic domain of polygalacturonase), were produced in Pichia pastoris. S6A was a bifunctional protein and had both pectin methylesterase and polygalacturonase activities.

Protein engineering is commonly used to improve the robustness of enzymes for activity and stability at high temperatures. In this study, we identified four residues expected to affect the thermostability of Streptomyces sp. strain S9 xylanase XynAS9 through multiple-sequence analysis (MSA) and molecular dynamic simulations (MDS).

Xylanase, which catalyzes the random hydrolysis of internal xylosidic linkages, is a critical enzyme participating in xylan decomposition and has been widely applied in industrial utilizations. Xylanase isolated from the extremophilic Streptomyces sp. S9 (XynAS9) possesses broad adaptability to temperature and pH and thus is an attractive candidate in industrial applications.

Objective: Tumor necrosis factor (TNF ) locus has been a long-standing type 2 diabetes (T2D) candidate gene. Few studies have been conducted on TNF SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) as rs1799964 (T-1031C), rs1800630 (A-863C) and rs1799724 (C-857T) in T2D. The purpose of this study is to examine the association of TNF SNP and T2D in a case control study and further explore whether these SNPs influence the clinical efficacy of insulin therapy.

Background: Incorporation of exogenous glucanase into animal feed is common practice to remove glucan, one of the anti-nutritional factors, for efficient nutrition absorption. The acidic endo-β-1,3-1,4-glucanase (Bgl7A) from Bispora sp. MEY-1 has excellent properties and represents a potential enzyme supplement to animal feed.

Akirin is a nuclear factor involved in innate immune responses of arthropods and mammals. In this study we have cloned an Akirin2 gene, pdakirin2, from freshwater Chinese loach (Paramisgurnus dabryanus) and characterized its biological functions. Phylogenetic analysis revealed deduced PdAkirin2 had high sequence identities to Akirin2 homologs from fish and mammals (70-91%), it contained two conserved nuclear localization signals (NLSs) with verified sub-cellular localization.
