Background: Low-energy anti-fibrillation pacing (LEAP) has been suggested as an alternative treatment in symptomatic fibrillation patients. It significantly lowers the energy required compared with standard 1-shock defibrillation.

Objective: In this study, we investigated the mechanism of arrhythmia termination by LEAP and systematically analyzed the influence of shock period and timing on the success rate of LEAP.

Heart failure (HF) affects over 5 million Americans and is characterized by impairment of cellular cardiac contractile function resulting in reduced ejection fraction in patients. Electrical stimulation such as cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) and cardiac contractility modulation (CCM) have shown some success in treating patients with HF. Computer simulations have the potential to help improve such therapy (e.
