Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the role of macrophages in the progression of premalignant gastric lesions to cancer, focusing on their gene expression and characteristics.
  • Researchers used computational tools like CIBERSORT and WGCNA to analyze immune cell types, revealing a connection between inflammation and pathological changes in gastric tissues.
  • They found that specific macrophage subsets expressing S100A8 and S100A9 are prominent in early gastric cancer and contribute to tumor growth through the TLR4-NFκB signaling pathway, indicating potential targets for treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • There’s a significant need to find effective treatments for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and some antidiabetic drugs may have beneficial effects based on previous research.
  • The study involved analyzing genetic data and patient records to explore the impact of these antidiabetic drugs on IBD, using a large participant pool consisting of over 25,000 IBD patients and controls.
  • Results indicated that higher expression of a gene linked to sulfonylureas (a type of antidiabetic drug) might lower the risk of Crohn’s disease (CD), suggesting that these drugs could be considered cautiously for patients with CD.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the main regulator of physiological angiogenesis during embryonic development, bone growth, and reproductive function, and it also participates in a series of pathological changes. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), with a history of more than 2000 years, has been widely used in clinical practice, while the exploration of its mechanisms has only begun. This review summarizes the research of recent years on the influence of TCM on VEGF.
