Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are closely associated with the maturity and variety of strawberries. However, the complexity of VOCs hinders their potential application in strawberry classification. This study developed a novel classification workflow using strawberry VOC profiles and machine learning (ML) models for precise fruit classification.

However, visual and portable sensors for E2H have not been reported mainly because of the difficulty in selective response to E2H while avoiding interference from other VOC, especially isomers. Herein, we developed a novel colorimetric sensor based on thiol-functionalized polydiacetylene assembly (PDA-SH/PDA) for the quantitative and selectivity of E2H.

This study elucidates how sulfur dioxide (SO) treatment maintains grape texture quality, focusing on the role of hydrogen peroxide (HO)-mediated cell wall modifications. SO treatment exhibited effects similar to those of HO treatment, resulting in firmer berries with more intact cell wall structures, higher contents of chelate-soluble pectin, sodium carbonate-soluble pectin, hemicellulose, and cellulose, with lower levels of water-soluble pectin compared to untreated fruit.

After 96 h, fillets stored in carbon dioxide and nitrogen showed improved texture, water-holding capacity, and color, compared to those stored in oxygen. Functional analysis respectively identified 117 and 65 differentially expressed proteins in carbon dioxide and nitrogen, including key proteins such as troponin, myosin light chain, actin, and collagen types IV and XIII, that were linked to extracellular adhesion, cytoskeleton integrity, energy metabolism, and membrane functions.

Direct in situ imaging of nucleic acids on biological samples is advantageous for rapid analysis without DNA extraction. However, traditional nucleic acid amplification in aqueous solutions tends to lose spatial information because of the high mobility of molecules. Similar to a cellular matrix, hydrogels with biomimetic 3D nanoconfined spaces can limit the free diffusion of nucleic acids, thereby allowing for ultrafast in situ enzymatic reactions.

This study explored the health effects of intaking strawberry VOC extract and its dominant terpene, linalool. The results indicated that linalool and strawberry VOC extract significantly increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria like Lactobacillus, Bacillus, and Alistipes in mice.

In current study, transcriptome analysis showed that elevated CO played important roles in regulating strawberry fruit quality at the transcriptional level, and plant hormones metabolism at least partially involved in the regulatory process.

In this study, we treated mandarin fruits for 4-day storage. Noteworthy were the induced degreening and the enhanced citrus aroma of fruits under AZ treatment, involving the promotion of chlorophyll degradation, carotenoid biosynthesis, and limonene biosynthesis.

One of the most concerning sequelae of ZIKV infection is the teratogenic effect on the developing fetus, with the mechanisms of viral spread to and across the placenta remaining largely unknown. Although vaccine trials and prophylactic or therapeutic treatments are being studied, there are no approved treatments or vaccines for ZIKV.

The results showed that the physicochemical properties of the multi-active packaging were closely related to the addition of NATA and EGCG. It was found that NATA and EGCG were embedded in the CS/pectin matrix through intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions.
