Background: The major concerns for patients who have acute lung injury (ALI) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) associated with coronavirus disease 2019 or sepsis and undergone successful venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV ECMO) include a low survival rate and an uncontrollable inflammatory response. This study aimed to introduce an inflammation-related ALI/ARDS rat model supported by VV ECMO that is more suitable for clinical application to assess the immune response and thereby further improve survival after VV ECMO.
Methods: Rats were randomly divided into three groups: the sham group, the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) group, and the LPS + ECMO group.
Background And Aims: Previous studies have demonstrated that peptidylarginine deiminase 4 (PAD4) functions as a suppressor, promoter, or both in cancer pathogenesis and therapeutic outcomes. Although PAD4 expression has been proposed to be one of the molecular features of gastric cancer (GC), the biological basis of PAD4 in GC progression and chemotherapy has not been formally established.
Methods: Cell type-preferential expression of PAD4 was analyzed in both preclinical and clinical models.
The rising incidence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and the associated economic impacts has prompted a global focus in the field. In recent years, there has been a growing understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms of AD, including the aggregation of β-amyloid, hyperphosphorylated tau, and neuroinflammation. These processes collectively lead to neurodegeneration and cognitive decline, which ultimately results in the loss of autonomy in patients.

Although there have been various reviews on the asymmetric construction of C3-spirooxindoles, there is a scarcity of reviews focusing on the asymmetric organocatalytic synthesis of C3-spiro-cyclopentaneoxindole derivatives. This particular scaffold has garnered significant attention from synthetic chemists due to its relevance in medicinal chemistry. In this review, we provide an overview of recent advancements in the asymmetric organocatalytic synthesis of various C3-spiro-cyclopentaneoxindoles using organic catalysts.

To develop hybrid cuprous-lead bimetallic halides with unique non-centrosymmetric structures, we introduced the chiral cations /-2-CHN (CHN = methylpiperazinium) into inorganic frameworks containing two different heterometallic cuprous and lead cations, respectively, and successfully obtained the novel chiral hybrid bimetallic halides of (/-2-CHN)CuPbI single crystals by the hydrothermal method. Bimetallic anionic [CuPbI] framework structures were constructed from two different [PbI] and two different [CuI] twisted polyhedra, and band gap calculations were demonstrated.

Precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC) are considered critical stages for the prevention and treatment of gastric cancer (GC), with gastric mucosal inflammation being a prerequisite for PLGC. Macrophages, integral to the immune system, typically respond to external stimuli triggering inflammation. Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb.

It is well accepted that ferroptosis, an iron-dependent programmed cell death, acts as a new type of tumor suppression mechanism tightly linked with numerous metabolic pathways. SLC7A11 is a transmembrane cystine/glutamate transporter protein that plays a vital role in controlling ferroptosis .

As a newly defined type of programmed cell death, ferroptosis is considered a potent weapon against tumors due to its distinct mechanism from other types of programmed cell death. Ferroptosis is triggered by the uncontrolled accumulation of hydroperoxyl polyunsaturated fatty acid-containing phospholipids, also called lipid peroxidation. The lipid peroxidation, generated through enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms, drives changes in cell morphology and the destruction of membrane integrity.

An orthogonal experiment was designed to screen for the optimal parameters of LIPUS-MB in MDA-MB-231/DOX cells. The CCK-8 assay was used to determine the drug resistance of the cells and to measure their proliferation activity and resistance reversal efficiency at the optimal parameters.

In this study, we attempted to evaluate the association of the IABP approach on survival and vascular complication rates in adults with cardiogenic shock undergoing VA-ECMO.
Methods: We performed a systematic search of original studies on VA-ECMO with and without IABP in PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library.

Implant-associated infections (IAIs), triggered by pathogenic bacteria, are a leading cause of implant failure. The design of functionalized coatings on biomedical materials is crucial to address IAIs. Herein, a multifunctional coating with good antifouling effect and antibacterial photothermal therapy (aPTT) performance was developed.

C-Jun amino-terminal kinase (JNK) is associated with oxidative stress-induced damage to intestinal epithelial barrier. However, it is unclear whether oxidative stress can increase gut injury by Clostridium perfringens type A (CpA) and whether JNK mediates this process.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is the most common malignant tumor and ranks third in the world. LncRNA H19 (H19), one of the members of lncRNA, is overexpressed in various tumors. However, many undetermined molecular mechanisms by which H19 promotes GC progression still need to be further investigated.

The expression of interleukin 31 (IL-31) is positively correlated with the severity of dermatitis. Anti-IL-31 receptor α (IL-31RA) targeted drugs have been used to treat AD, however, they are expensive and have side effects.
