The transition process of perceptions of hygiene care practices among nurses in acute-care wards: A grounded theory study.

Aim: To explore how perceptions of hygiene care practices among nurses in acute-care wards change over their clinical experience.

Methods: Based on symbolic interactionism, we employed a grounded theory methodology to explore interrelationships of meaning arising from actors' perceptions and interactions. Thirty-three nurses working in acute-care wards for >3 years were selected by purposive snowball and theoretical sampling; semi-structured individual interviews were conducted from October 2023 to February 2024.

Quantity and quality of napping to mitigate fatigue and sleepiness among nurses working long night shifts: a prospective observational study.

Background: Napping during night shifts is a countermeasure against fatigue and sleepiness, which both impact patient safety. However, there is insufficient evidence on how nurses nap, especially concerning their napping quality. Open Abdominal Management for Damage Control in Liver Transplantation: A Single-center Experience.

Background: Patients undergoing liver transplantation are in a state of coagulopathy before surgery because of liver failure. Intraoperative hemorrhage, massive transfusions, and post-reperfusion syndrome further contribute to coagulopathy, acidosis, and hypothermia. In such situations, temporary cessation of surgery with open abdominal management and resuscitation in the intensive care unit (ICU), which is commonly used as a damage control strategy in trauma care, may be effective.

Diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound-derived fat fraction for the detection and quantification of hepatic steatosis in patients with liver biopsy.

Purpose: This retrospective study was conducted to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound-derived fat fraction (UDFF) for grading hepatic steatosis using liver histology as the reference standard.

Methods: Seventy-three patients with liver disease were assessed using UDFF and liver biopsy. Pearson's test and the Bland-Altman plot were used to assess the correlation between UDFF and histological fat content in liver sections.

Aim: Wiping pressure (WP [mmHg]) during bed baths is essential to maintain skin integrity and care quality for older adults. However, effects of different wiping pressures on skin barrier recovery over multiple days remain unclear. This study evaluated and compared the effects of consecutive bed bathing with weak pressure and that with ordinary pressure on skin barrier recovery of hospitalised older adults.

Giant impurity effect on anomalous Hall effect of Mn3Sn.

Mn3Sn is an anomalous Hall effect (AHE) antiferromagnet that exhibits the hysteretic AHE in antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase at room temperature. We report that whisker Mn3Sn crystals grown by the flux method exhibit a non-hysteretic AHE at mid-to-low temperatures when the whisker Mn3Sn is surrounded by a thin layer of ferromagnetic Mn2-xSn. These crystals exhibit a hysteretic AHE above 275 K due to the spin alignment of the inverse triangular lattice, which is similar to other crystals.

Health Management of Working Pregnant Nurses: A grounded theory study.

Skin barrier assessment is essential for nurses and caregivers to prevent skin disorders; however, the evidence available for clinical assessment is limited. This systematic review aimed to clarify the risk factors of skin barrier dysfunction in older adults.

Safe suprapancreatic lymph node dissection for gastric cancer with ectopic common hepatic artery.

Suprapancreatic lymph node dissection for patients with gastric cancer in whom the common hepatic artery is located neither at the suprapancreatic margin nor in front of the portal vein is a more difficult procedure than when the common hepatic artery is in a more typical position. There is an increased risk of injury to the vessels that need to be preserved and inadequate lymph node dissection. Measures that have been reported for use in this situation are preoperative diagnosis with three-dimensional computed tomography angiography, dissection using the portal vain as a guide, and safe exposure of the portal vein with dissection to preserve the nerves at the suprapancreatic margin and in front of the portal vein.

A case of hepatocellular carcinoma with pseudoaneurysm formation upon lenvatinib administration.

A 79-year-old man received treatment for multiple intrahepatic hepatocellular carcinoma with atezolizumab + bevacizumab. However, he developed lower back pain attributed to spinal metastases upon tumor enlargement; thus, he was admitted to our hospital for a change from atezolizumab + bevacizumab to lenvatinib and radiation therapy for the spinal metastases. On the 11th day after starting lenvatinib treatment, a pulsatile aneurysm appeared in the tumor, detected using abdominal ultrasonography Micro B-flow imaging, which visualized blood flow at a high frame rate; this was diagnosed as a pseudoaneurysm.

Effects of concentrate levels on intestinal fermentation and the microbial profile in Japanese draft horses.

In racehorses, feeding a high-concentrate diet could cause abnormal fermentation in the hindgut. This feeding management regime is not suitable for the nutritional physiology of horses. Utility of salivary cortisol profile as a predictive biomarker in nurses' turnover risk: a preliminary study.

Background: Predicting nurse turnover risk is crucial due to the global nursing shortage; however, existing predictors, such as fatigue and burnout, lack objectivity. Salivary cortisol is a non-invasive marker of stress and fatigue, but its utility in predicting nurse turnover risk is unknown. We examined whether salivary cortisol profiles across three different day shifts in a month are predictors of the extent of nurses' reluctance to stay in their current jobs.

Background: Transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) is known to be associated with a high incidence of adverse events. However, few studies have investigated the correlation between obesity and the risk of TBLC-related adverse events, especially in Asians, who are known to have characteristic differences in height and weight as compared to individuals of other ethnicities.

Methods: We retrospectively assessed 102 Japanese patients who underwent TBLC for the diagnosis of interstitial lung disease to evaluate the correlation between patient characteristics and the occurrence of TBLC-related adverse events (hemorrhage, pneumothorax, and acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease).
