Quantitative ultrasound calcaneus measurements: normative data for the Greek population.

Quantitative ultrasound (QUS) is a peripheral bone densitometry technique that is rapidly gaining in popularity, and is widely used worldwide for the assessment of skeletal status. This, however, generally occurs in the absence of adequate clinical guidelines. As accurate interpretation of the results and correct classification in individual fracture risk assessment are of great value, the present study was carried out to establish a reference database for calcaneal QUS measurements across age group and gender in Greece.

Cardiovascular disease risk factors among children of different socioeconomic status in Istanbul, Turkey: directions for public health and nutrition policy.

Objectives: The aim of the current study was to examine the influence of socioeconomic status (SES) on physiological (lipid profile, obesity indices) and behavioral (dietary habits, physical activity) cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors among primary schoolchildren in Istanbul.

Design: Cross sectional study.

Setting: One private school and two public schools from different SES districts in Istanbul.

Health and nutrition education in primary schools of Crete: changes in chronic disease risk factors following a 6-year intervention programme.

The effectiveness of a health and nutrition education programme, in changing certain chronic disease risk factors, was assessed after the 6 years intervention period was completed. The school-based intervention programme was applied to all children registered in the first grade (age 5.5-6.
