Female Attendings in University Clinics of Surgery in Germany: A Scoping Analysis of an Ongoing Disparity.

Introduction:  Gender-based discrimination, particularly in healthcare, affects women's roles and opportunities, including in surgery where they remain underrepresented in leadership positions. The extent to which such discrimination is prevalent in attending positions is unclear.

Methods:  The publicly available records of 48 universities and university-associated hospitals in Germany were extracted to quantify gender ratios among attending surgeons and head surgeons in the fields of visceral, vascular, cardiac, thoracic, pediatric, orofacial, neuro-, trauma, and plastic surgery.

Center Hemodialysis Versus Peritoneal Dialysis: A Cost-Utility Analysis.

Introduction Kidney replacement therapy (KRT) is needed for patients with end-stage kidney disease. While it is clear that kidney transplantation remains the gold standard in KRT, data comparing the cost-utility of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD) are scarce. No such analysis has been performed for German patients.

Electrocauterization versus Ligation of Lymphatic Vessels to Prevent Lymphocele Development after Kidney Transplantation-A Meta-Analysis.

Lymphoceles are amongst the most common complications following kidney transplantation. Therefore, effective strategies to prevent their development are needed. The ligation of lymphatic vessels has proven to be a successful concept for that purpose.

Anterior Fusion and Long-Term Cervical Mobility in Patients With Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury: An Observational Study.

Objective This study aims to determine and quantify the impairment of cervical mobility and range of motion in patients with traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) and subsequent cervical subaxial fusion surgery. Methods A total of 89 patients who underwent interbody fusion of the cervical spine and were admitted to the Spinal Cord Injury Center of the BG Klinikum Hamburg, Germany between 2003 and 2018 were examined after their in-facility rehabilitation was successfully completed. Reclination, inclination, tilt, and rotation of the cervical spine were examined and documented in addition to overall patient characteristics and fusion extent.

The development, incidence and treatment trends of trochanteric fractures in Germany: a cohort study.

Background: Hip fractures are a major public health problem worldwide and can lead to disability, increased mortality, and reduced quality of life. We aim to provide a nationwide epidemiological analysis of trochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures and their respective surgical treatments.

Methods: Data were retrieved from the national database of the German Department of the Interior.

Background: Currently, the development of the incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) and the influence of age and gender on the condition in Germany is unclear.

Materials And Methods: Data were extracted from the national database of Federal Health Reporting. It was then normalized for demographic changes.

The Lübeck Medication Satisfaction Questionnaire-A Novel Measurement Tool for Therapy Satisfaction.

Background: Therapy satisfaction is widely considered an important aspect of clinical care. Still, there are currently no freely available questionnaires for its measurement. We developed the Lübeck Medication Satisfaction Questionnaire (LMSQ) for that purpose.

Developments in the epidemiology and surgical management of patella fractures in Germany.

Background: Patella fractures account for approximately 1% of all skeletal injuries. Treatment options are vast and no definitive conclusion on what option is the most beneficial could be made so far. Plate osteosynthesis appears to gain in importance.

Incidence of spinal cord injuries in Germany.

Purpose: The goal of this study was to provide recent data on incidence of spinal cord injuries (SCI) in Germany.

Methods: The source of information was data collected via the mandatory submission of ICD-10 GM Codes by German public hospitals after patient discharge. Data from 2013 to 2020 were retrieved from the databases of the Federal Bureau of Statistics.

Long-Term Survival and Causes of Death in Patients below the Age of 60 with Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury in Germany.

To study the mortality, cause and risk indicators of death in German patients with traumatic spinal cord injury, patients with traumatic spinal cord injury admitted to Berufsgenossenschaftliches Trauma Hospital Hamburg between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 2018, aged between 16 and 60 with a minimal survival of one year after injury, were included. Further criteria were the absence of life-limiting comorbidities at the time of injury. 223 deceased patients with traumatic spinal cord injury were identified, investigated on and partly compared to the surviving subjects.
