Background/aims: A large percentage of patients undergoing esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) screening do not have esophageal varices (EV) or have only small EV. We evaluated a large, international, multicenter cohort to develop a novel score, termed FIB-4plus, by combining the fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) score, liver stiffness measurement (LSM), and spleen stiffness measurement (SSM) to identify high-risk EV (HRV) in compensated cirrhosis.
Methods: This international cohort study involved patients with compensated cirrhosis from 17 Chinese hospitals and one Croatian institution (NCT04546360).
Introduction: China is rich in straw resources. The utilization of straw in the cultivation of edible fungi partially resolves the resource conflicts between mushroom cultivation and forest industry and also contributes to environmental protection.
Methods: In this study, based on the technology of replacing wood by grass, the straw formula for mycelial culture of was optimized with Simplex-lattice method commonly used in mixture design.
The interception of blood-borne bacteria in the liver defines the outcomes of invasive bacterial infections, but the mechanisms of this antibacterial immunity are not fully understood. This study shows that natural antibodies (nAbs) to capsules enable liver macrophage Kupffer cells (KCs) to rapidly capture and kill blood-borne encapsulated bacteria in mice. Affinity pulldown with serotype-10A capsular polysaccharides (CPS10A) of Streptococcus pneumoniae (Spn10A) led to the identification of CPS10A-binding nAbs in serum.

Recent discoveries have determined acetylation as a significant modification for CPS, although its impact on HMV and virulence was previously unknown. This study elucidates the roles of two enzymes: Klebsiella pneumoniae Acetylated CPS Esterase (KpACE), an esterase that removes acetyl groups from CPS, and WcsU, an acetyltransferase that adds acetyl groups to CPS.

Ursolic acid (UA), a pentacyclic triterpenoid, has been reported for its anti-allergy effects. However, the protective mechanism against pseudo-allergic reactions remains unclear.

The current study demonstrated that protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), a unique endoplasmic reticulum-resident member of PTP family, displayed an activity-dependent increase in its protein expression and synaptic localization in spinal dorsal horn of adult male rats. PTP1B interacted with the Src Homology 3 (SH3) domain of Synapse-Associated Protein 102 (SAP102), one of the postsynaptic scaffolding proteins that anchored PTP1B at postsynaptic sites.

Methods: Three online databases, including Embase, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library, were thoroughly searched for literature describing the relationship between osteopenia, osteosarcopenia, and outcomes of surgical treatment of HBPC patients from the start of each database to September 29, 2023. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to rate the quality of the studies.
The error-related negativity (ERN) and error positivity (Pe) are components of the event-related potential following an error that are potential mechanistic biomarkers of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The study examined the ERN, Pe, flanker task accuracy, and clinical measures in 105 OCD cases and 105 matched healthy controls (HC) ages 8-18 years. Higher flanker task accuracy in all participants was associated with an increased ERN amplitude and increased difference between Pe and correct positivity amplitudes (ΔPe).

In order to realize the effective supervision of enterprise carbon emissions, this paper constructs a tripartite evolutionary game model among the corporate, government and public from the perspective of dynamic subsidies and taxes. The main results are as follows.

We aimed to explore the effectiveness and safety of a new type of uterine compression suture, the step-wise surgical technique of knapsack-like sutures for treating intractable PPH caused by uterine atony and placenta factors in cesarean section.
Methods: The step-wise surgical technique of knapsack-like sutures was established on the basis of the artful combination of vertical strap-like sutures and an annular suture-ligation technique.
Aims: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been documented in many malignancies as participating in the progression of cancer cells. Here, we present a novel EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor, ZZC4, and examine its effect on cancer cell proliferation, migration, and tumor-bearing xenograft models.
Main Methods: The antiproliferative effect of ZZC4 was assessed in vitro by MTT assay, colony formation, and wound healing assay and in vivo with tumor-bearing xenograft nude mice.
Background: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most prevalent form of peripheral vertigo, with vascular lesions being one of its suspected causes. The older adults are particularly vulnerable to BPPV. Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD), on the other hand, is a clinical condition that results from damage of cerebral small vessels.

This systematic review incorporated 15 empirical studies on digital interventions' impact on LGBTQ+ youth mental health, examining their potential to address these inequities. This study innovatively categorized existing digital interventions into four streams: Structured Formal (telehealth, online programs), Structured Informal (serious games), Unstructured Formal (mobile applications), and Unstructured Informal (social media).

Background: Chinese medicine belly button application (CMBBA) has been used to treat childhood diarrhea (CD) in several randomized controlled trials (RCTs), but its effectiveness and combination strategy still need to be clarified. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and the optimal combination strategy of CMBBA in treating CD.
Methods: Up until January 2023, we searched for studies that met our inclusion criteria in six databases, including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Chinese SinoMed, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang.
Zanthoxylum armatum is a dioecious prickly plant which developed apomictic reproduction. The increases in male flowers and prickle density in female plants lead to low yield and picking efficiency. However, little is known concerning the mechanisms of floral development and prickle formation.

It is a common disease that seriously affects reproductive health of women in childbearing age. Due to the unknown etiology and pathophysiological mechanism, and the lack of unified diagnostic criteria and effective treatment methods, total or subtotal hysterectomy has become a radical treatment for adenomyosis, which will lead to the complete loss of fertility.
