Based on measurement of the volume increment of polar liquid that is a result of heating by absorbed microwave energy, two types of calorimeters with coaxial capacitive probes for measurement of high-power microwave energy are designed in this paper. The first is an "inline" calorimeter, which is placed as an absorbing load at the end of the output waveguide, and the second is an "offline" calorimeter that is placed 20 cm away from the radiation horn of the high-power microwave generator. Ethanol and high density polyethylene are used as the absorbing and housing materials, respectively.

The cleavage processes of protonated peptides in mass spectrometry, described in the mobile proton model, are charge-directed and depend on the charge distribution around the cleavage sites. Previous studies experimentally verified the mobile proton model by changing peptide sequences. In this study, oxidation was applied to change the charge distribution of peptides, but the sequence was retained.

Biomarkers for peptide/protein oxidation under oxidative stress (OS) hold both incredible application potential as well as significant challenges. In this article, liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry were applied to establish a new method for evaluating the oxidation site and degree of peptide oxidized, with its oxidative product serving as biomarker. In the three model peptides, peptide FMRF (containing a methionine) was prone to undergo oxygen addition under UV/H(2)O(2) oxidization, forming a sulfoxide (FM(O)RF) with a stable chromatographic peak separate from the model peptides.

The composition-ratio of Chrome Azurol S (CAS) with Cu(2+) and dynamic reaction process of CAS with EDTA were studied by spectrophotometry. The composition-ratio of Cu(2+) with CAS (2:1) was successfully determined using the method of lines and EDTA complexing substitution. The effects of temperature, time, pH, concentration of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMAB), and concentration of Cu(2+) on the absorption spectrum were also discussed.
