Cold stress in winter is one of the most severe abiotic stresses on plant growth and flourishing, and the selection of cold tolerant genotypes is an important strategy to ensure the safety of plant growth and development. Cyclocarya paliurus, a diclinous and versatile tree species originally in subtropical regions, has been introduced and cultivated in the warm temperate zone of China to meet the increasing market demand for its leaf yield. However, information regarding its cold tolerance remains limited.

Microbe-Assisted Phytoremediation (MAP) is an eco-friendly method for remediating soil contaminated with heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd) and chromium (Cr). This study demonstrates the potential of a king grass-Serratia marcescens strain S27 (KS) co-symbiotic system to enhance heavy metal remediation. The KS symbiosis increased the biomass of king grass by 48 % and enhanced the accumulation of Cd and Cr in the whole plant by 2.

The complete chloroplast genome of reported herein was a circular DNA molecule of 154,542 bp in length. The genome had a typical quadripartite structure, consisting of a pair of inverted repeats (IRa and IRb: 24,836 bp) separated by a large single-copy region (LSC: 67,996 bp) and a small single-copy region (SSC: 18,363 bp). The overall GC content of the genome was 35.

Oligopeptides usually have high nutritive value and multiple physiological functions. To achieve the highly efficient utilization of feather waste, a feather-degrading bacterium, Pseudomonas otitis, was isolated and used for production of feather oligopeptides. The production potential and characteristics of the produced oligopeptides by H11 were also investigated.

To recover a nitrogen resource from high-ammonia-nitrogen wastewater, two amphitrophic hydrogen-oxidizing bacteria (HOB), Paracoccus denitrificans Y5 and P. versutus D6, capable of nitrogen assimilation for single-cell protein (SCP) production were isolated. These two HOB strains could grow autotrophically with H as an electron donor, O as an electron acceptor, CO as a carbon source, and ammonia nitrogen (NH-N) as a nitrogen source.
