Article Synopsis
  • Atherosclerotic plaques can lead to carotid artery stenosis and ischemic stroke, prompting this study to evaluate the effectiveness of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) in detecting neovascularization within these plaques.
  • The study included 20 original research papers with 1,589 carotid plaques from 1,225 patients, finding that SMI had a sensitivity of 93% and a specificity of 80% for identifying intraplaque neovascularization.
  • The analysis concluded that SMI shows strong diagnostic performance, making it a valuable tool for screening carotid intraplaque neovascularization in patients with atherosclerotic plaques.

Chronic diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a major cause of disability and mortality in patients with diabetes. Dysfunctional endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) play important roles in preventing vascular complications in these patients. Our results determined the elevated expression of histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) both in patients with DFU and in high glucose (HG) induced EPCs.

Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are involved in diabetes-associated complications, including diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). Recent reports showed that miR-155 downregulation promotes wound healing in diabetic rats and ameliorates endothelial injury induced by high glucose, but its role in DFU is unknown. We found that miR-155 was overexpressed in EPCs from patients with DFU and in high glucose-induced EPCs from healthy people.
