Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is the preferred treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Nevertheless, only approximately half of patients undergoing IVT experience positive outcomes. The objective of the study was to examine the clinical characteristics of patients with AIS and identify predictors for unfavorable clinical outcomes at 3 months after IVT.

The precise spatiotemporal control of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and scavenging remains pivotal for infected wound healing. However, conventional nanozymes fail to adaptively regulate ROS dynamics across inflammatory and proliferative phases. A near-infrared (NIR)-activated inverse oxide/alloy-structured nanozyme (CoFe/ZnO@C) is developed, featuring enzymatic cascade activities to tune ROS homeostasis through synergistic chemodynamic (CDT), photodynamic (PDT), and photothermal (PTT) therapies.

Background: UCK2 (Uridine-Cytidine Kinase 2) is a promising prognostic marker for malignant tumors, but its association with immune infiltration and cancer stemness in pan-cancer remains to be fully understood. we find that gene UCK2 is closed related to RNA stemness scores (RNAss) and DNA stemness scores (DNAss), which is measured the tumor stemness. We also discover an association between UCK2 expression and immune cells by CIBERSORT algorithm, ESTIMATE algorithm and ssGSEA algorithm, especially, related to T cell, monocytes, mast cells, and macrophages.

SARS-CoV-2 continues to be a major global health threat. In this study, we performed a comprehensive meta-analysis on the epitopes of SARS-CoV-2, revealing its immunological landscape. Furthermore, using Shannon entropy for sequence conservation analysis and structural network-based methods identified candidate epitopes that are highly conserved and evolutionarily constrained in SARS-CoV-2 and other zoonotic coronaviruses.

Objective: To explore the value of preoperative prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and systemic immune inflammation index (SII) for predicting the efficacy and prognosis of patients with osteosarcoma undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) combined with surgery.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients with osteosarcoma undergoing NACT combined with surgery in Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center from January 2017 to May 2019. The patients were grouped into a remission group (pCR group, 85 patients) and a non-remission group (non-pCR, 79 patients), according to the treatment efficacy.

Article Synopsis
  • Noninterface-active polysaccharides can improve their emulsifying abilities through a process called microgelation, but optimizing this performance is challenging.
  • This study presents a new method that utilizes the movement of polyphenols, specifically tannic acid, to enhance how these polysaccharide microgels work in emulsions.
  • Results show that the right amount of tannic acid helps reduce droplet sizes and stabilizes the emulsion, while too much can lead to clumping of the microgels and reduce stability.

Objective: Comprehensive analyses of the burden of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are crucial for deepening our understanding of their impact on population health and for evaluating progress toward achieving international health goals.

Study Design: A comprehensive analysis was performed using data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021.

Methods: We gathered data on the number of prevalent cases, incidences, deaths, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for MSDs from 1990 to 2021.

Background: The causality of autoimmune diseases with frailty has not been firmly established. We conducted this Mendelian randomization (MR) study to unveil the causal associations between autoimmune diseases with frailty.

Methods: A MR analyses were performed to explore the relationships between autoimmune disease and frailty, using summary genome-wide association statistics.

Background: Hypoxic microenvironment is a common feature of most solid tumors including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) formation by tumor cells could provide blood supply to tumor cells under hypoxia. NFE2 like basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor 2 (Nrf2), a regulator of cellular homeostasis, may promote tumor progression in the hypoxic conditions.

Accurate prediction of bone metastasis-free survival (BMFS) after complete surgical resection in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) may facilitate appropriate follow-up planning. The aim of this study was to establish and validate a preoperative CT-based deep learning (DL) signature to predict BMFS in NSCLC patients. We performed a retrospective analysis of 1547 NSCLC patients who underwent complete surgical resection, followed by at least 36 months of monitoring at two hospitals.

The degradation of sodium alginate by human gut microbiota was found to be retarded calcium cross-linking in our previous study. We hypothesized that the guluronic acid block (GB) on the alginate molecule might be the key structural region affecting alginate degradation by the gut microbiota when cross-linked with calcium. This study aims to prove this hypothesis by studying the structural features of the cross-linked GB on its fecal fermentation behaviors concerning the aspects of total carbohydrate contents, monosaccharide contents, short-chain fatty acids production, calcium state variations, and structural variations.

Transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) has a neuroprotective function in traumatic brain injury (TBI) through its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. However, the precise mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective actions of TGF-β1 on the cortex require further investigation. In this study, we were aimed to investigate the regulatory function of TGF-β1 on neuronal autophagy and apoptosis using an primary cortical neuron trauma-injury model.

  • Lonicera japonica, a traditional Chinese medicinal plant, faced severe leaf spot disease in Shandong Province, China, with an incidence over 80% in a 25-acre area from August to October in 2021 and 2022.
  • Initially, small brown spots appeared on the leaves, which progressively increased in number and coverage, leading to significant plant distress.
  • Fungal samples were collected and identified, leading to the isolation of three representative strains that closely resembled Nigrospora species in appearance and genetic makeup, confirmed through PCR amplification and genomic analysis.

Traditionally, tenderness has been assessed through shear force testing, which is inherently destructive, the accuracy is easily affected, and it results in considerable sample wastage. Although this technology has some drawbacks, it is still the most effective detection method currently available. In light of these drawbacks, non-destructive testing techniques have emerged as a preferred alternative, promising greater accuracy, efficiency, and convenience without compromising the integrity of the samples.
