Bismuth oxychalcogenides (BiOX, X = S, Se, Te), a family of non-van der Waals (non-vdW) two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors, are attracting significant attention due to their outstanding semiconducting properties and huge potential in various applications of electronic and optoelectronic devices. Surface imperfections (, surface vacancies) and surface reconstructions are more likely to appear and may cause intriguing physical properties and novel phenomena in the non-vdW 2D materials than the vdW cases. Here, we explore the impacts of surface vacancies and surface reconstructions on the properties of the surfaces and 2D structures of BiOX by using the first-principles method.

All-inorganic perovskite CsSnI has attracted intense research interests due to its prominent optoelectronic properties, high thermal stability, and environmentally friendly character. The surface energies and electronic structures of black orthorhombic (γ) CsSnI surfaces are investigated by using first-principles methods. The anisotropic and termination-dependent surface energies of low-index surfaces (, the (110), (001), (100) and (101) surfaces) are obtained, providing important data for CsSnI, since these values are difficult to be measured in experiments.

To determine the expression of β-catenin, lymphoid enhancer-binding protein-1 (LEF-1), and heparanase-1 (HPA-1) and to evaluate these proteins' potential prognostic values in malignant acral melanoma without mutations in BRAF exons 11 and 15 and NRAS exons 1 and 2, specimens from 90 patients with wild-type BRAF and NRAS were assessed and analyzed by immunohistochemistry and western blotting. The positive expression of β-catenin, lymphoid enhancer-binding protein-1, and heparanase-1 was observed in 36 (72%), 31 (62%), and 32 (64%) of the detected acral melanomas, respectively.
