Article Synopsis
  • A study examined the relationship between cardiopulmonary reserve and the risk of gravity-induced loss of consciousness (G-LOC) or almost loss of consciousness (A-LOC) in fighter aviators, revealing no clear consensus on the effects.
  • Among 264 male fighter aviators tested, 14% experienced G-LOC/A-LOC, yet there were no significant differences in basic demographics such as age, height, weight, or body mass index between those who did and didn't experience it.
  • The study found that FEV/FVC pulmonary function parameters were lower in the G-LOC/A-LOC group, suggesting that aviators with slightly diminished ventilation may be more prone to G-LOC/A-LOC, while other exercise

Background: X-ray fluoroscopy has been the primary cardiac imaging modality in permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) operations, but it inevitably results in radiation exposure for both operators and patients. Fluoroscopy is considered a contraindication, especially in certain circumstances, such as gestation, during which the fetus is most sensitive to radiation exposure. Therefore, measures to avoid radiation exposure are necessary, and a more safe and feasible approach is needed for this procedure.
