Reconsidering routine admission for children under age 3 undergoing partial tonsillectomy: a prospective study.

Background: Partial Tonsillectomy (PT) is an alternative method to treat sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and/or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The current guidelines do not differentiate it from traditional tonsillectomy. Thus, children younger than 3 years old undergoing PT are admitted for surveillance similar to traditional tonsillectomy due to possible postoperative complications.

Powered Intracapsular Tonsillotomy and Adenoidectomy in Infants ≤36 Months Compared to Older Children: A Retrospective Analysis.

Objectives: To evaluate the safety and outcomes of powered intracapsular tonsillotomy and adenoidectomy (PITA) for the treatment of sleep disordered breathing in infants up to 36 months of age compared to older children.

Methods: This retrospective analysis included children who underwent PITA from 2013 to 2019 at a single tertiary care medical center. The patients were divided into 2 groups: up to 36 months, and 36 to 72 months.

Endoscopic marsupialization of nasolacrimal duct cysts under topical anaesthesia: 5 years of a single institute experience.

Objective: To present the outcomes of neonatal nasolacrimal duct cysts treated through endoscopic intranasal marsupialization under topical anaesthesia.

Methods: A retrospective study of 19 infants diagnosed with congenital nasolacrimal duct cyst, with or without dacryocystocele, diagnosed and treated between March 2015 through March 2020. Data were extracted for descriptive purposes and included: birth weight, main presenting symptom, stertor or dyspnoea, unilateral or bilateral occurrence.

Outcomes and safety of adenoidectomy in infants up to 12 months of age compared to older children.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and outcomes of adenoidectomy for the treatment of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) in infants up to 12 months of age as compared to children ages 13-72 months METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed by reviewing the medical records of children who underwent adenoidectomy from 2005 to 2018. The data of older age groups were also collected for comparison. The patients were divided into three groups: up to 12 months (infants), 13-36 months (toddlers) and 37-72 months (preschool).

Parathyroid surgery: correlation between pre-operative localization studies and surgical outcomes.

Objective: Pre-operative imaging techniques have enabled minimally invasive parathyroid surgery to supersede the traditional approach to hyperparathyroidism (HPT) surgery, which included cervical exploration. Cervical ultrasound (US) and sestamibi scan (MIBI) are commonly performed, but the results of these localization tests do not always match. This study correlated surgical outcomes with pre-operative localization findings, including matched positive US and MIBI studies, one positive study (US or MIBI), conflicting studies or negative results.

Systematic review of randomized controlled trials comparing intracapsular tonsillectomy with total tonsillectomy in a pediatric population.

Objective: To perform a systematic literature review and data synthesis of level-1 evidence comparing recovery-related outcomes after intracapsular tonsillectomy (IT) (any technique) with those of total tonsillectomy (TT) (any technique) in a pediatric population.

Data Sources: Two independent reviewers searched the following databases: Ovid MEDLINE, including old MEDLINE and pre-MEDLINE, EBM reviews, Books@Ovid and Journals@Ovid, the Web of Science with Conference Proceedings, and references from indexed articles.

Study Selection: Inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials conducted on a pediatric population comparing IT performed by any technique of dissection with TT, also performed by any technique of dissection.

Pediatric chronic rhinosinusitis histopathology: differences and similarities with the adult form.

Objective: To compare the histopathology and immunohistochemistry of pediatric and adult chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).

Study Design: Cross-sectional study.

Penetrating injury of the maxilla by needlefish jaws.

Introduction: Needlefish penetrating injuries have become a worldwide problem, inflicting critical morbidities and even mortalities. This is the first published case of needlefish injury in the Mediterranean basin.

Case Report: A 29 year old man was admitted to Meir Medical Centre in Israel with a penetrating facial wound caused by elongated needlefish jaws.
