Although microbial pathogens utilize various strategies to evade plant immunity, host plants have evolved powerful defense mechanisms that can be activated in preparation for threat by infective organisms. Here, we identified one 24 kDa alkyl hydroperoxide reductase C (AhpC) from the culture supernatant of Ralstonia solanacearum strain FQY-4 (denoted RsAhpC) in the presence of host roots. RsAhpC contributes to HO detoxification and the pathogenicity of R.

Purpose: Anxiety is a common emotion experienced by patients with prostate cancer (PCa), and can be exacerbated by testing the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) index. The Memorial Anxiety Scale for Prostate Cancer (MAX-PC) was developed to assess the cancer-specific anxiety of these patients, but lack of appropriate thresholds for this scale limits its use. This study aimed to utilize ROC curve analysis to identify the best cut-off values for the Chinese version of the MAX-PC scale.

Background: Neonatal hypoglycemia (NH) is a common clinical symptom that can occur in both normal and critically ill neonates. The placenta is the site of material exchange between the mother and the fetus, a special organ shared by the mother and the fetus during pregnancy, and one of its important functions is to transfer nutrients from the mother to the fetus. Terbutaline is used to relax frequent uterine contractions before delivery, and it can penetrate the placental barrier and affect the normal decomposition of neonatal glycogen.

The angiotensin converting enzyme 2-angiotensin-(1-7)-Mas axis (ACE2-Ang-(1-7)-Mas axis) is reported to participate in lipid metabolism in kidney, but its precise effects and underlying mechanisms remain unknown. We hypothesized that Ang-(1-7) reduces lipid accumulation and improves renal injury through the low density lipoprotein receptor-sterol regulatory element binding proteins 2-SREBP cleavage activating protein (LDLr-SREBP2-SCAP) system by suppressing inflammation in high fat diet (HFD)-fed mice. In this study, male C57BL/6 mice were randomized into four groups: STD (standard diet)+saline, HFD+saline, HFD+Ang-(1-7) and STD+Ang-(1-7).

Objective: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) reduce proteinuria in diabetic nephropathy (DN). Some studies have suggested that dual blockade of the renin-angiotensin system provides additive benefits in DN but others showed increased adverse events. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination therapy for DN.

Hyperlipidemia is an independent risk factor for renal disease, and lipid deposition is associated with glomerulosclerosis. The angiotensin converting enzyme 2-angiotensin-(1-7)-Mas axis (ACE2-Ang-(1-7)-Mas axis) has been reported to participate in lipid metabolic regulation but its mechanism remains unclear. We hypothesized Ang-(1-7) would reduce lipid uptake in human mesangial cells (HMCs) by regulating the low density lipoprotein receptor-sterol regulatory element binding proteins 2-SREBP cleavage activating protein (LDLr-SREBP2-SCAP) negative feedback system, and improve glomerulosclerosis by regulating the transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1).

Article Synopsis
  • Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is crucial for angiogenesis, and its role in the hypoxic adaptations of plateau zokor (Myospalax baileyi) was investigated alongside microvessel density (MVD) in their brain tissues.
  • The study involved cloning and sequencing VEGF cDNA from plateau zokor, comparing it with sequences from plateau pika, rats, and mice, revealing high sequence homology.
  • Results showed that while VEGF mRNA levels in the plateau zokor brain were lower than in SD rats, their MVD was significantly higher, suggesting that increased MVD helps plateau zokor adapt to low oxygen environments.
