Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an independent risk factor for new-onset and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, whether changes in MetS are associated with the new-onset CKD and its progression remains unknown.

Methods: A total of 36,571 participants from the Kailuan Study were enrolled in this study, including 27,072 without CKD and 9499 with CKD at baseline.

Most of the optical axes in modern systems are bent for optomechanical considerations. Antireflection (AR) coatings for polarized light at oblique incidence are widely used in optical surfaces like prisms or multiform lenses to suppress undesirable reflections. The optimal design and fabrication method for AR coatings with large-angle range (68°-74°) for a P-polarized 193 nm laser beam is discussed in detail.

KISS1 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) may play important roles as metastasis suppressor and metastasis promoter genes, respectively, in a variety of malignancies. However, there is little information about their possible roles in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The goals of this study were to determine the mRNA and protein expressions of KISS1 and MMP-9 in NSCLC and their relations to metastasis and prognosis.

Objective: To investigate the relation between the susceptibility to silicosis and the polymorphism of HLA-DRB1 *, DQB1 * genes in Chinese Hans.

Methods: HLA-DRB1 * and DQB1 * gene polymorphism were tested in 48 silicosis patients and 100 normal controls by using polymerase chain reaction of sequence-specific primers (PCR-SSP).

Results: The allele frequencies of DRB1 * 1401 and DQB1 * 05 in silicosis patients were significantly higher than those in normal controls (chi 2 = 5.
