Glucose-Activated Switch Regulating Insulin Analog Secretion Enables Long-term Precise Glucose Control in Mice With Type 1 Diabetes.

Unlabelled: Genetic modification of non-β-cells to produce insulin is a promising therapeutic strategy for type 1 diabetes; however, it is associated with issues, including biosafety and precise regulation of insulin supply. In this study, a glucose-activated single-strand insulin analog (SIA) switch (GAIS) was constructed to achieve repeatable pulse activation of SIA secretion in response to hyperglycemia. In the GAIS system, the conditional aggregation domain-furin cleavage sequence-SIA fusion protein was encoded by the intramuscularly delivered plasmid and temporarily kept in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) because it binds to the GRP78 protein; then, upon hyperglycemia, the SIA was released and secreted into the blood.

Process of diagnosis and treatment of chronic cough in children at primary hospitals.

Objective: This study aimed to establish a process for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic cough in children suitable at primary hospitals and improve the treatment efficacy rate and improve health economic indicators.

Methods: Children who visited the Department of Pediatrics, Affiliated Zhou Pu Hospital of the Shanghai Health Medical College from January to December 2021 were randomly assigned to the intervention group ( = 206), in which the diagnosis and treatment process proposed here was applied, and a control group ( = 211) that did not follow the intervention pathway and followed a pathway with the doctors usual practice based on his/her previous experience. Patients were followed up and data were collected at weeks 0 (time of enrollment), 2, 4, 8, and 12 to evaluate the efficacy rate and clinical value.

The relation between autonomy support and music enjoyment in online learning for music undergraduates in the post-COVID-19 era.

Music enjoyment is considered to predict music-related academic performance and career choice. Although relevant research in non-music fields has demonstrated the association between teachers' autonomy support and students' academic enjoyment, it remains unknown whether this association is valid in the music discipline. In addition, in the post-COVID-19 era, online education has become a common way of teaching and learning for music undergraduates.

Prolonged control of insulin-dependent diabetes via intramuscular expression of plasmid-encoded single-strand insulin analogue.

Daily insulin injection is necessary for the treatment of the insulin-dependent diabetes. However, the process is painful and inconvenient. Accordingly, we have made exploratory efforts to establish an alternative method for continuous insulin supply via intramuscular injection of a designed plasmid encoding the single-strand insulin analogue (SIA), which provides safe, effective and prolonged control of insulin-dependent diabetes.

Solvophobic interaction promoted supramolecular helical assembly of building blocks of weak intermolecular halogen bonding.

We report supramolecular helical assembly in water of β-turn structured bis(N-amidothioureas) containing Br-substitutes of moderate halogen bonding ability, promoted by stronger hydrophobic interaction. The helical polymers show an unusual negative nonlinear CD-ee dependence.

Turn Conformation of β-Amino Acid-Based Short Peptides Promoted by an Amidothiourea Moiety at C-Terminus.

A C-terminal amidothiourea motif is shown to promote a β-turn-like folded conformation in a series of β-amino acid-based short peptides in both the solid state and solution phase by an intramolecular 11-membered ring hydrogen bond.

Short-term effect of a smart nebulizing device on adherence to inhaled corticosteroid therapy in Asthma Predictive Index-positive wheezing children.

Objective: To explore the effect of a smart nebulizing device on the rate of adherence to inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) in children with positive Asthma Predictive Index.

Methods: In total, 65 children with positive Asthma Predictive Index and under the age of 5 years who visited our hospital from October 2015 through October 2016, were randomly assigned to receive conventional nebulization or smart nebulization. The smart nebulizer was connected to smart phones via an App.
