Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) and atherosclerosis are two common age-related conditions that can cause significant morbidity. While previous studies have suggested an association between the two conditions, the nature of this association remains unclear.

Methods: We used Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationship between IDD and atherosclerosis.

Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a common musculoskeletal disorder that contributes significantly to disability and healthcare costs. Serum urate concentration has been implicated in the development of various musculoskeletal conditions. While previous observational studies have suggested an association between the two conditions, it might confound the effect of serum urate concentrations on IDD.

Background: Though hallux valgus is a common foot deformity, the integrated information on its global prevalence and incidence is relatively lacking. The aim of this research was to assess the global prevalence and incidence of hallux valgus, thus providing reliable data reference for clinical practice.

Methods: A systematic review of global hallux valgus research publications concerning its prevalence and incidence was performed based on six electronic databases ((PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Online Journals and CQVIP)) from their inception to November 16, 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • Calcaneal fractures are common injuries that can lead to significant health issues, and the study aims to improve understanding of the related research trends and areas needing attention.
  • An analysis of 1,687 publications from 2000 to 2021 revealed that 2019 had the highest output with 128 articles, with the US leading in contributions and Hebei Medical University and the University of California ranking as top institutions.
  • The research highlighted three main keyword clusters focusing on internal fixation, fractures, and osteoporosis, indicating a diverse but still under-collaborative research environment primarily in Europe and the Americas.

In this study, we prepared PLLA/bpV(pic) microspheres, a bpV(pic) controlled release system and examined their ability to protect nerve cells and promote axonal growth. PLLA microspheres were prepared by employing the o/w single emulsification-evaporation technique. Neural stem cells and dorsal root ganglia were divided into 3 groups in terms of the treatment they received: a routine medium group (cultured in DMEM), a PLLA microsphere group (DMEM containing PLLA microspheres alone) and a PLLA/bpV(pic) group [DMEM containing PLLA/bpV(pic) microspheres].
