Berberine hydrochloride (BH) extracted from Coptis chinensis (CC) and Matrine (MT) separated from Sophora flavescens (SF) are alkaloids with potent anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor effects. Motivated by the clinical practice of using CC and SF together, we aimed to demonstrate that the synergistic application of the natural compounds BH and MT could enhance therapeutic effects and minimize side effects. Two types of liposomes, liposomes containing only BH (BH-LP) and liposomes containing both BH and MT (BH-MT-LP), were successfully prepared via the reverse evaporation method.

A modified numerical procedure for the shakedown analysis of structures under dual cyclic loadings, based on the Abdalla method, is proposed in this paper. Based on the proposed numerical procedure, the shakedown analysis of the thick cylindrical vessels with crossholes (TCVCs) under cyclic internal pressure and cyclic thermal loading was carried out. Titanium nitride (TiN) nanoparticles have recently been considered as potential candidate plasmonic materials; such materials support localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs) and show excellent thermal stability with a high melting point. The electromagnetic (EM) field coupling and gap distance between components of individual TiN nanosphere multimers are critical parameters affecting their plasmonic sensitivity and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) performance, both of which are numerically investigated by the finite element method. It is demonstrated that the fractional shifts of both the dipolar LSPR wavelength [Formula: see text] and the refractive index sensitivity factor S follow the universal 'plasmon ruler' behavior, which is explained well in terms of EM field distribution.
