: Rib fractures are common in patients with trauma, and patients with multiple rib fractures often require surgical stabilization. Because rib fractures may occur at different sites along the ribs, the technical approach to surgical stabilization varies. Here, we present a case of posterior rib fractures with multiple paraspinal fragmented rib segments that were successfully treated with costovertebral plate fixation.

Although it has benefits, such as reduced sedation and easier care, it also has risks. This study explored the unclear timing, technique, and patient selection criteria for tracheostomy in patients with trauma.

Methods: The Emergency Department-based Injury In-depth Surveillance (EDIIS) data collected between 2019 and 2020 were used in this retrospective study. Patients with fall-related injuries who fell from a height of ≥6 and <9 m were included.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the characteristics of patients injured by high-rotation cutting tools and the factors related to the severity of their injuries.
Methods: Adult patients (≥18 years), who presented to the emergency department (ED) after a high-rotation cutting tool injury and who were registered in the Korean Emergency Department-based Injury In-depth Surveillance (2011-2018) database, were included. Patients' demographic characteristics, injury-related factors, and Injury Severity Scores were collected.
Penetrating neck injuries are a surgical challenge. In particular, penetrating neck injuries associated with carotid artery injuries have a high mortality rate. Overt external hemorrhage is unanimously considered as an indication for surgical exploration.

We evaluated operative mortality risks for the outcomes of emergency endovascular aneurysm repair (eEVAR) open repair in rAAA.
Methods: Twenty patients underwent eEVAR (n = 12) or open repair (n = 8) for rAAA between 2016 and 2020.
Background: The Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II scoring system and the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scoring system are widely used for critically ill patients. We evaluated whether APACHE II score and SOFA score predict the outcome for trauma patients in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed trauma patients admitted to the ICU in a single trauma center between January 2014 and December 2015.
Background: Herein is sought to determine whether the occurrence of post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF) increases the risk of late recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients undergoing open heart surgery (OHS).
Methods: This study included 938 patients (56.7 ± 13.
Ascending aortic pseudoaneurysm is a rare complication after cardiothoracic surgery and the open surgical repair for this complication is challenging. We report on a patient who developed an ascending aortic pseudoaneurysm after aortic valve replacement (AVR), which was treated successfully with endovascular therapy. Our case showed that angulation of the ascending aorta is one of factors for consideration in application of endovascular therapy and endovascular therapy might be an option for management of ascending aortic pathology in patients with high surgical risk, particularly patients with a severely angulated proximal ascending aorta.

Case Description: Here we report a case of primary cardiac angiosarcoma with hemorrhagic pericardial effusion who achieved a durable response with tumor excision followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy with docetaxel. A sixty year old man was presented with dyspnea and was diagnosed with primary cardiac angiosarcoma with hemorrhagic pericardial effusion.
We report herein a case of benign cardiac schwannoma in the interatrial septum. A 42-year-old woman was transferred from a clinic because of cardiomegaly as determined by chest X-ray. A transthoracic echocardiography and chest computed tomography examination revealed a huge mass in the pericardium compressing the right atrium, superior vena cava (SVC), left atrium, and superior pulmonary vein.

Furthermore, a delayed manifestation 10 years after esophagectomy is an extremely rare situation. Herein, we report a surgical case of fecopneumothorax resulting from the perforation of intrathoracically herniated transverse colon 10 years after McKeown esophagectomy.

Methods: Among 45 patients with a ventricular septal defect and/or an atrial septal defect with PAH, 28 patients were treated with inhaled iloprost before and after surgery.
Cardiac myxomas are the most common type of benign cardiac tumors and most of them occur in the left atrium but the biatrial myxoma is uncommon. We present a rare case of giant biatrial myxoma nearly obstructing the orifice of the inferior vena cava. A 58-year old woman presented with exertional dyspnea and intermittent chest discomfort.

Few reports describe nonresponders to initial treatment with IVIG in KD, which remains the most consistent risk factor for coronary artery lesions (CALs). This study aimed to investigate whether the serum level of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) can be a predictive indicator for identifying patients with KD at higher risk of IVIG treatment failure.
