Hydrogels are extensively utilized in biomedical fields because of their remarkable properties, including biocompatibility, high water content, flexibility, and elasticity. However, despite substantial progress in hydrogel research, creating a hydrogel adhesive that integrates high stretchability, fatigue resistance, and reversible adhesion continues to pose significant challenges. In this study, we aimed to address these challenges by preparing hydrogels using a combination of acrylic acid, acrylamide, carboxymethylcellulose methacrylate, thiol-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, and poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDM).

The keyboard, a staple tool for information entry and human-machine interaction, faces demands for enhanced information security due to evolving internet technologies. This study introduces a self-powered flexible intelligent keyboard (SFIK) that harnesses the giant magnetoelastic effect to convert the mechanical pressure from key presses into electrical signals. The sensor boasts a wide sensing range (35 to 600 kPa) and a rapid response time (∼300 ms), allowing it to record and recognize individual keystroke dynamics.

The lesions in the paracaval portion are situated in deep locations and adjacent to vital blood vessels. Existing reports regarding the resection of the paracaval portion through a complete right laparoscopic approach are limited. We present a case of a hepatic mass resection in the paracaval portion using a complete right laparoscopic approach.

Objectives: Although frailty can increase the risk of premature death, whether reversal of frailty reduces the risk of premature death and what factors contribute to the reversal of frailty have not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to investigate the link between frailty reversal and all-cause mortality and the factors affecting frailty reversal.

Design: A combination of the nested case-control study and the prospective cohort study.

Background: Linezolid (LZD) is used to treat infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive bacteria, but thrombocytopenia is one of the main adverse reactions to LZD administration. Early prediction of linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia (LI-TP) is of great importance to improve the clinical outcomes and prognoses. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a prediction model for LI-TP.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) have garnered significant attention due to their ability to shape the tumor microenvironment, thereby facilitating tumor progression and metastasis. Serpin peptidase inhibitor clade H member 1 (SERPINH1) is known for its role in the proper folding and secretion of collagen. However, its biological significance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear.

The silkworm neuropeptide Orcokinin (abbreviated as BommoOK) is equipped with multiple biological functions, one of which acts as a pigmentation inhibitor. To explore the whitening efficiency of BommoOK, the inhibitory effects on tyrosinase and its adaptability on the cell for six mature peptides of BommoOK were investigated in this paper. At the same time, BommoOKA_type4, the peptide with the best melanin inhibition effect, was used as an additive to prepare a whitening cream, and the effects on skin moisture, oil content, fine lines, skin glossiness, pores, and pigment depth were determined.

According to the principle and current domestic and international construction processes of core outcome set(COS) and the characteristics of post-stroke aphasia, this study built COS with evidence-based support for traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) treatment of post-stroke aphasia. Firstly, a comprehensive review was conducted on the articles about the TCM treatment of post-stroke aphasia that were published in the four major Chinese databases, three major English databases, and three clinical registration centers over the past five years. The articles were analyzed and summarized, on the basis of which the main part of the COS for clinical research on the TCM treatment of post-stroke aphasia was formed.

We analyze the single-photon band structure and the transport of a single photon in a one-dimensional coupled-spinning-resonator chain. The time-reversal symmetry of the resonators chain is broken by the spinning of the resonators, instead of external or synthetic magnetic field. Two nonreciprocal single-photon band gaps can be obtained in the coupled-spinning-resonator chain, whose width depends on the angular velocity of the spinning resonator.

The coupling of photovoltaic and pyroelectric effects is a common phenomenon in ferroelectric films and often results in coupling enhancements. Although the coupling effects of a variety of ferroelectric films have been examined in terms of improved performance, they have yet to be quantitatively ranked and assessed. Here, by taking the charge coupling factor, the Yang's charge, and output energy as metrics to evaluate the coupling performance, a methodology is developed for evaluating the performance of a range ferroelectric films when the pyroelectric and photovoltaic effects are coupled.

Objectives: The 3 most frequently utilized frailty assessment measures are the Fried criteria, FRAIL scale, and Frailty Index (FI). This study aimed to compare predictive capabilities of these 3 measures regarding all-cause mortality in the United States and to identify the key predictive variables.

Design: Cross-sectional study.

Background: Low-energy far-infrared rays (FIRs) are widely used in the treatment of wounds, lymphedema, and various vascular diseases, and various types of products that emit infrared rays are being used at home for patients with blood flow-related diseases without experimental evidence.

Methods: Blood flow and epidermal temperature were measured while applying conductive heat and FIRs via an electric mat (non-intervention) or a loess bio-ball mat (intervention).

Results: In the control group ( = 30), there was a minimal change in blood flow and epidermal temperature in the right and left middle fingers (LMF, RMF) as the mat temperature gradually increased.

Background: Laparoscopic radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy combined with celiac axis resection and portal vein reconstruction is a new procedure for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. This surgical technique may offer patients with pancreatic cancer involving the portal vein and celiac axis an opportunity for radical surgical resection. We aim to evaluate the short- and long-term efficacy and describe the surgical details of this technique.

Background: The proliferation of generative artificial intelligence (AI), such as ChatGPT, has added complexity and richness to the virtual environment by increasing the presence of AI-generated content (AIGC). Although social media platforms such as TikTok have begun labeling AIGC to facilitate the ability for users to distinguish it from human-generated content, little research has been performed to examine the effect of these AIGC labels.

Objective: This study investigated the impact of AIGC labels on perceived accuracy, message credibility, and sharing intention for misinformation through a web-based experimental design, aiming to refine the strategic application of AIGC labels.

To curb the intensification of desertification, China has implemented a series of measures to control rocky desertification. However, the interaction between vegetation restoration and the frequent occurrence of extreme weather events has complicated the drought situation in Southwest China. Therefore, in this study, the vegetation health index (VHI) was used to analyze the spatiotemporal variations in drought.

Thirty-eight novel butylphthalide-hydroxycinnamic acid hybrid derivatives were designed and synthesized to discover effective antiplatelet agglutination drugs. Among these compounds, 3 o gave the optimal inhibitory activity against AA-induced platelet aggregation in vitro and also exhibited better inhibition than the precursor 3-n-butylphthalide (NBP) against thrombin-induced platelet contraction, carrageenan-induced tail thrombosis, and FeCl-induced common carotid artery thrombosis. Further investigations on the anti-ischemic stroke activity revealed that compound 3 o exhibited a remarkable protective effect against ischemic/reperfusion brain injury.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how traditional open surgery (TOS) and minimally invasive surgery (MIS) affect sleep in patients in a surgical ICU.
  • Patients who underwent MIS reported better sleep quality, as evidenced by higher scores on sleep questionnaires and wearable sleep monitors.
  • Results indicate that MIS leads to longer and deeper sleep periods compared to TOS, suggesting it may enhance recovery in ICU patients.
