Background: Kidney fibrosis, the excessive accumulation and dysregulated remodeling of the extracellular matrix, is the principal pathophysiological process in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Protein L-isoaspartyl/D-aspartyl methyltransferase (PCMT1) is crucial in repairing post-translational modifications of L-isoaspartyl residues, which are important for extracellular matrix proteins because of their low turnover rate and susceptibility to accelerating factors. This study aimed to reveal a novel role of PCMT1 in kidney fibrosis.

Plant peptide hormones play an important role in regulating root development and stress responses. Here, we identify a root-derived CLAVATA3/Endosperm surrounding region-related (CLE) peptide TaCLE24b and its leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinase CLAVATA1 (CLV1) TaCLV1, which together regulate the formation of lateral root primordium and the outgrowth of lateral root in wheat. Additionally, a loss-of-function mutation of TaSG-D1, encoding a Ser/Thr protein kinase glycogen synthase kinase 3 (STKc_GSK3), also enhances the formation of lateral root primordium and the outgrowth of lateral roots in wheat.

Poor selectivity is one of the main bottlenecks restricting the development of metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensors. In this paper, using hydrogen cyanide (HCN) as the target gas, CeMnOx as the catalytic layer material and Pt@SnO as the gas-sensitive layer material, we have proposed a scheme to improve the selectivity of a catalytic layer/gas-sensitive layer-laminated MOS sensor under dynamic temperature modulation. We tested HCN and 12 kinds of battlefield environment simulation gases, and the results showed that the CeMnOx/Pt@SnO sensor, under the condition of temperature dynamic modulation (a constant temperature of 400 °C for the gas-sensitive layer and a variable temperature of room temperature to 400 °C for the catalytic layer; the heating and cooling rates were 200 °C/s, the highest temperature was maintained for 2 s, and the lowest temperature was maintained for 2 s), distinct characteristic peaks appeared on the G-T curves of the resistance response to HCN only.

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted much attention in the global photovoltaic field due to their excellent optoelectronic properties. However, the intrinsic crystalline properties and the preparation methods of perovskites result in numerous defects and residual stress in the perovskite film. To address this issue, the additive 3-methylthio-1-propylammonium bromide (3MeSPABr) was added to the perovskite precursor solution, and PSCs with an inverted structure via a low-pressure-assisted solution process were fabricated.

Mitochondrial heat shock proteins and co-chaperones play crucial roles in maintaining proteostasis by regulating unfolded proteins, usually without specific target preferences. In this study, we identify a DNAJC-type co-chaperone: T cell activation inhibitor, mitochondria (TCAIM), and demonstrate its specific binding to α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase (OGDH), a key rate-limiting enzyme in mitochondrial metabolism. This interaction suppresses OGDH function and subsequently reduces carbohydrate catabolism in both cultured cells and murine models.
