Camouflage through colour change can involve reversible or permanent changes in response to cyclic predator or herbivore pressures. The evolution of background matching in camouflaged phenotypes partly depends on the genetics of the camouflage trait, but this has received little attention in plants. Here we clarify the genetic pathway underlying the grey-leaved morph of fumewort, Corydalis hemidicentra, of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau that by being camouflaged escapes herbivory from caterpillars of host-specialized Parnassius butterflies.

Cerebral infarction screening (CIS) is critical for timely intervention and improved patient outcomes. We investigate the application of machine learning techniques for feature selection and classification of speech and cognitive function assessments to enhance cerebral infarction screening. We analyze a dataset containing 117 patients (95 patients were diagnosed with cerebral infarction, and 54 were identified as lacunar cerebral infarction of them) comprising speech and cognitive function features from patients with lacunar and non-lacunar cerebral infarction, as well as healthy controls.

Osteopetrosis, a group of highly heterogeneous genetic bone disorders, is characterized by deafness, increased bone density, hepatosplenomegaly, pancytopenia and intellectual disability. Osteopetrosis can be divided into three subtypes: autosomal recessive osteopetrosis (ARO), intermediate autosomal recessive osteopetrosis (IARO), and autosomal dominant osteopetrosis (ADO). Amygdalins (AMY) from bitter almonds are distinguished by their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties, but their role in the treatment of acute lung injury (ALI) and their mechanisms need to be clarified. We sought to investigate whether AMY provides protection against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI in mice and explore the mechanisms of its protection. Results showed that AMY effectively alleviated LPS-induced ALI in a dose-dependent manner by reducing in vivo lung wet/dry ratio, lung/body weight ratio, and myeloperoxidase (MPO).

Detection of the four tobacco shred varieties and the subsequent unbroken tobacco shred rate are the primary tasks in cigarette inspection lines. It is especially critical to identify both single and overlapped tobacco shreds at one time, that is, fast blended tobacco shred detection based on multiple targets. However, it is difficult to classify tiny single tobacco shreds with complex morphological characteristics, not to mention classifying tobacco shreds with 24 types of overlap, posing significant difficulties for machine vision-based blended tobacco shred multi-object detection and unbroken tobacco shred rate calculation tasks.
