An Fe-catalyzed coupling reaction between oxime ester and benzothiazole is described, which involves C-C bond cleavage of oxime ester via a single-electron transfer process. This iron catalytic system performed in water under mild reaction conditions offers a streamlined strategy to the construction of alkyl nitrile substituted benzothiazole derivatives. Application of this strategy for the synthesis of some key important compounds including 4-heterocyclic-3-arylbutanoic acid is also reported.

Bone cancer pain (BCP) is severe chronic pain caused by tumor metastasis to the bones, often resulting in significant skeletal remodeling and fractures. Currently, there is no curative treatment. Therefore, insight into the underlying mechanisms could guide the development of mechanism-based therapeutic strategies for BCP.

Introduction: The effects of isoform-specific histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACIs) and the non-selective HDACI on sepsis have been profoundly reported. However, the best HDAC classes have not been fully evaluated. Therefore, this study aimed to determine which HDACIs are responsible for survival and beneficial for organ injury.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory bowel disease with serious mucosal inflammation mainly in the colon and rectum. Currently, there is no effective therapeutics for UC. Indoximod (IND) is a water-insoluble inhibitor for indolamine 2, 3-dioxygenase (IDO) and has been mainly reported in cancer therapy.

Background: Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) is the leading cause of death from cardiovascular disease. Currently, most studies have focused on factors influencing IDH or mortality risk, while few predictive models have been used for mortality risk in IHD patients. In this study, we constructed an effective nomogram prediction model to predict the risk of death in IHD patients by machine learning.

Some agronomic practices not only promote the development of crop roots and increase overall plant performance but also affect colonisation by rhizosphere microorganisms. However, the composition and temporal dynamics of the tobacco rhizosphere microbiota under different root-promoting practices are poorly understood. Here, we characterised the tobacco rhizosphere microbiota at the knee-high, vigorous growing, and maturity stages under the application of potassium fulvic acid (PFA), γ-Polyglutamic acid (PGA), soymilk root irrigation (SRI), and conventional fertilization (CK) and its correlation with root characteristics and soil nutrients.

Background: There is only limited evidence for an association between calcium (Ca) and depression, and the relationship was inconsistent. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the relationship between dietary Ca and the risk of depressive symptoms in individuals over the age of 18 in the US.

Methods: We extracted 14,971 participants from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007-2016 to probe their associations.

Article Synopsis
  • Periodontitis is a common chronic inflammatory disease that can lead to significant dental damage if not diagnosed early, highlighting the need for effective diagnostic tools.
  • A new dual-channel electrochemical immunosensor has been developed to detect two key biomarkers in saliva, IL-1β and MMP-8, which can aid in the early diagnosis and monitoring of periodontitis.
  • The sensor shows excellent sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy, with the ability to differentiate between various stages of periodontitis, making it a promising tool for point-of-care applications.

Finishing weight is a key economic trait in the domestic pig industry. Evidence has linked the gut microbiota and SCFAs to health and production performance in pigs. Nevertheless, for Diannan small ear (DSE) pigs, a specific pig breed in China, the potential effect of gut microbiota and SCFAs on their finishing weight remains unclear.

A novel direct electrochemical sensor, based on a pyridine diketopyrrolopyrrole/graphene oxide nanocomposite-modified glass carbon electrode (PDPP/GO/GCE), was developed herein for chloramphenicol (CAP) detection. In this research, PDPP was grafted onto GO by C-N bonds and π-π conjugation, which were synergistically confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The morphology study shows that PDPP was uniformly dispersed on the GO in the form of particles.

A remarkable breakthrough in topological phase classification is the establishment of the topological periodic table, which is mainly based on the classifying space analysis or K theory, but not based on concrete Hamiltonians that possess finite bands or arise in a lattice. As a result, it is still difficult to identify the topological phase of an arbitrary Hamiltonian; the common practice is, instead, to check the incomplete and still growing list of topological invariants one by one, very often by trial and error. Here, we develop unsupervised classifications of topological gapped systems with symmetries, and demonstrate the data-driven construction of the topological periodic table without a priori knowledge of topological invariants.

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a major microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) and is closely associated to programmed cell death. However, the complex mechanisms of necroptosis, an alternative cell death pathway, in DKD pathogenesis are yet to be elucidated. This study indicates that necroptosis is involved in DKD induced by high glucose (HG) both in vivo and in vitro.

Groundwater and rivers in Chinese cities suffer from severe nitrate pollution. The accurate identification of nitrate sources throughout aquatic systems is key to the water nitrate pollution management. This study investigated nitrogen components of groundwater for twelve years and analyzed the sources of nitrate in the aquatic system based on dual isotopes (δN-NO and δO-NO) in the city of Nanjing, a core city of the Yangtze River Delta region, China.

For highly sensitive detection of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) in the environment, a novel pyridine diketopyrrolopyrrole-functionalized graphene oxide (PDPP-GO) composite was constructed for the first time by an improved Hummers' method. Herein, PDPP was completely dissolved in sulfuric acid (6 mol L) and reacted with GO, promoting PDPP evenly adhering to the GO surface. Moreover, the specific surface area increased from 15.

Herein, an activated wood surface rich in CHO groups was constructed by spraying a sodium periodate aqueous solution on a natural wood surface. Besides, microcrystalline cellulose was functionalized to obtain aminated cellulose, which was dissolved in an aqueous solution and used as a specific adhesive. Subsequently, an ultrastrong wood bonding interface was co-constructed with the activated wood surface and aminated cellulose, which was formed by a chemical covalent reaction between aldehyde groups at the activated wood interface and amino groups on aminated cellulose.

Cervical cancer metastasis is an important cause of death in cervical cancer. Previous studies have shown that epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of tumors promotes its invasive and metastatic capacity. Alterations in the extracellular matrix (ECM) and mechanical signaling are closely associated with cancer cell metastasis.
