We conducted a phase I, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial including healthy adults in Sui County, Henan Province, China. Ninety-six adults were randomly assigned to one of three groups (high-dose, medium-dose, and low-dose) at a 3:1 ratio to receive one vaccine dose or placebo. Adverse events up to 28 days after each dose and serious adverse events up to 6 months after all doses were reported.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates immune persistence after switching from trivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (tOPV) to a new immunization schedule (IPV and bOPV) since 2016.
  • Blood samples were collected from 1104 participants at various ages to measure antibody levels against polioviruses.
  • Results showed that while type 1 and type 3 antibody rates were similar across groups, the 2-specific antibody rates were much higher in the IPV-IPV-tOPV group compared to others, indicating some schedules did not effectively maintain immunity against poliovirus type 2.

The 5-hydroxytryptamine 7 receptor (5-HTR) is one of the most recently cloned serotonin receptors which have been implicated in many physiological and pathological processes including drug addiction. Behavioral sensitization is the progressive process during which re-exposure to drugs intensified the behavioral and neurochemical responses to drugs. Our previous study has demonstrated that the ventrolateral orbital cortex (VLO) is critical for morphine-induced reinforcing effect.

Neurofilament light chain (NF-L) plays critical roles in synapses that are relevant to neuropsychiatric diseases. Despite postmortem evidence that NF-L is decreased in opiate abusers, its role and underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. We found that the microinjection of the histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor Trichostatin A (TSA) into the ventrolateral orbital cortex (VLO) attenuated chronic morphine-induced behavioral sensitization.

To provide a basis for further optimization of the polio sequential immunization schedule, this study evaluated the effectiveness of booster immunization with one dose of bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (bOPV) at 48 months of age after different primary polio immunization schedules. At 48 months of age, one dose of bOPV was administered, and their poliovirus types 1-3 (PV1, PV2, and PV3, respectively)-specific neutralizing antibody levels were determined. Participants found to be negative for any type of PV-specific neutralizing antibody at 24, 36, or 48 months of age were re-vaccinated with inactivated polio vaccine (IPV).

Mounting evidence shows that drug dependence involves the complex interplay between genetics and the environment. Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) is the rate-limiting enzyme in dopamine (DA) synthesis, which plays an essential role in the development of drug addiction. Noradrenergic dysfunction due to abnormalities TH expression has been implicated in the pathogenesis of drug addiction.

Recent studies have shown the 5-HT receptors are expressed in regions which are important in pain processing such as the cortex, amygdala, thalamus, PAG, spinal cord and dorsal root ganglia (DRG), suggesting a putative role of 5-HT receptors in pain modulation. The ventrolateral orbital cortex (VLO) is part of an endogenous analgesic system, consisting of the spinal cord - thalamic nucleus submedius (Sm) - VLO - periaqueductal gray (PAG) - spinal cord loop. The present study assessed the possible role of 5-HT receptors in the VLO in formalin-induced inflammatory pain model.

The present study aims to evaluate the relation between chronological age and the ratio of pulp volume (PV) to enamel volume (EV) of impacted mandibular third molars (IMTMs) by using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images and an improved 3D image segmentation technique. A sample of CBCT images of IMTM was collected from 414 northern Chinese subjects (214 male and 200 female clinical patients) ranging in age from 20 to 65 years. The GrowCut effect image segmentation (GCEIS) module algorithm was used to calculate the PV and EV from CBCT images.

Some effective antithyroid drugs (ATDs) have been widely used for patients with Graves' disease (GD) but are associated with ATD-induced agranulocytosis. We selected 29 ATD-induced agranulocytosis patients, 44 ATD-induced neutropenia patients, and 140 GD controls among the Chinese Han population who were recruited at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiao Tong University. We assessed their response to ATDs treatment by performing genotyping for a candidate gene association study of samples from patients receiving treatment.

Present here is a new dual ratiometric luminescent probe D which is a trichromatic and white-light-emitting metal-organic framework (MOF) composite facilely obtained by incorporating red/green-emitting complex modules into a blue-emitting MOF. Probe D exhibits remarkable capabilities of sensing different volatile organic solvents (VOSs) via 2D code recognition of the two VOS-dependent MOF ligand-to-module ratios of the emission-peak intensities. For specific VOSs, the resultant luminescent color changes from the starting white color are sharp enough to be visible to the naked eye.

With formate as ligand, two 1-D 3d-4f compounds (linear and zigzag) based on pyramidal {TbCu(4)} unit were obtained. Chair-like [(H(2)O)(2)(ClO(4))(2)](2-) clusters and μ(5)-η(1):η(4) bridging mode of formate were observed in the linear one which also displays slow relaxation of the magnetization.

Objective: To prepare Vero cell-adapted influenza H5N1 virus strain by Genetic Reassortment and produce influenza H5N1 vaccine using Vero cell as a substrate.

Methods: Embryonated specific pathogen-free (SPF) hen's eggs and Vero cells were co-infected with Vero cell-adapted influenza virus A/Yunnan/1/2005 Va(H3N2) and A/Anhui/1/2005 (H5N1) via reverse genetics. The reassortant was screened with goat antibody against strain A/Yunnan/1/2005 Va(H3N2) and identified for subtype by hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) assays and gene analysis of HA and NA.

Due to the insufficient supply of embryonated chicken eggs, the preparation of large quantities of inactivated influenza vaccines will require an alternative virus culture system after the emergence or reemergence of a pandemic influenza virus. The Vero cell is one of the ideal options since it was used for producing many kinds of human vaccines. However, most of the influenza viruses can not grow well in Vero cells.
