Cervical cancer (CC) is considered a public health problem. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) serve important roles in different types of cancer, including CC. However, the mechanisms used by circRNAs to facilitate CC progression are currently unclear.

Despite sustained efforts to treat neurodegenerative diseases, little is known at the molecular level to understand and generate novel therapeutic approaches for these malignancies. Therefore, it is not surprising that neurogenerative diseases are among the leading causes of death in the aged population. Neurons require sophisticated cellular mechanisms to maintain proper protein homeostasis.

Biofilm formation by Bacillus cereus strains is now recognized as a systematic contamination mechanism in foods; the aim of this study was to evaluate the production of submerged and interface biofilms in strains of B. cereus group in different materials, the effect of dextrose, motility, the presence of genes related to biofilms and the enterotoxigenic profile of the strains. We determine biofilm production by safranin assay, motility on semi-solid medium, toxin gene profiling and genes related to biofilm production by PCR in B.

DNA methylation is a key epigenetic modification to regulate gene expression in mammalian cells. Abnormal DNA methylation in gene promoters is common across human cancer types. DNMT3B is the main de novo methyltransferase enhanced in several primary tumors.

Background: High-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection is the main cause of cervical cancer, but additional alterations are necessary for its development. Abnormal DNA methylation has an important role in the origin and dissemination of cervical cancer and other human tumors. In this work, we analyzed the methylation of eight genes (AJAP1, CDH1, CDH13, MAGI2, MGMT, MYOD1, RASSF1A and SOX17) that participate in several biological processes for the maintenance of cell normality.

Background: To improve the efficiency of early diagnosis systems for cervical cancer, the use of cellular and viral markers for identifying precancerous lesions with a greater probability to progress to cancer has been proposed. Several cellular proteins and markers of oxidative DNA damage have been suggested as possible biomarkers of cervical carcinogenesis; however, they have not been evaluated together. In this study, we analyzed the expression of the cellular markers p16, Ki-67, CyclinE1, TOP2A/MCM2, and telomerase, as well as the DNA oxidative damage markers ROS and 8-OHdG.

Studies of cervical cancer (CC) have reported that microRNA-16-1 (miR-16-1), which is an oncomiR, is increased in the tissues and cell lines of CC. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association of miRNA-16-1 expression level with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the presence of squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL) and the integration of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) DNA. The current study analyzed 80 samples obtained from women by liquid-based cytology, which revealed that 20 were negative for SIL (NSIL) and without HPV, 20 were low-grade SIL (LSIL), 20 were high-grade SIL (HSIL), and 20 were diagnosed as SCC with HR-HPV.

Background: Some species of the Ficus genus show pharmacological activity, including antiproliferative activity, in cell lines of several cancer Types. ficus crocata is distributed in Mexico and used in traditional medicine, as it is believed to possess anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant properties. However, as of yet, there are no scientific reports on its biological activity.

Altered promoter DNA methylation is one of the most important epigenetic abnormalities in human cancer. DNMT3B, methyltransferase, is clearly related to abnormal methylation of tumour suppressor genes, DNA repair genes and its overexpression contributes to oncogenic processes and tumorigenesis . The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of the overexpression of DNMT3B in HaCaT cells on global gene expression and on the methylation of selected genes to the identification of genes that can be target of DNMT3B.

The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between expression of HPV16 E6, p53 and p21 proteins and the physical state of HPV16 in cervical cytologies without squamous intraepithelial lesions (Non-SIL) and with low grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL), both with HPV16 infection. 101 liquid-based cytological samples were analyzed. 50 samples were without squamous intraepithelial lesions (Non-IL) and 51 samples of low grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL), both with HPV16 infection.

Abnormal methylation is related to cancer development. Since DNMT3B is an enzyme that modulates genomic methylation, we hypothesized that genetic variants of the promoter DNMT3B may be associated with an increased risk of developing cervical cancer. Our aim was to investigate the association between -579GT and 46359CT polymorphisms of DNMT3B and cervical cancer, high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL), and low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL).

Chronic exposure to inorganic arsenic severely damages the central nervous system (CNS). Glutamate (GLU) is the major excitatory amino acid and is highly neurotoxic when levels in the synaptic cleft are not properly regulated by a family of Na⁺-dependent excitatory amino acid transporters. Within the cerebellum, the activity of the Bergmann glia Na⁺-dependent GLU/aspartate transporter (GLAST) excitatory amino acid transporter 1 (EAAT1/GLAST) accounts for more than 90% of GLU uptake.
