Background: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is lower than that of both the general population and the patients with other chronic diseases, mainly due to diagnostic delay, treatment difficulties, poor psychosocial support, and problems with social integration. Early diagnosis and optimal treatment are paramount to control the disease in patients with XLH, avoid complications, and maintain or improve their HRQoL. We, therefore, analyzed the HRQoL of pediatric and adult patients with XLH treated with conventional therapy in Spain.

Method: Individuals aged between 18 and 70 years with reflux oesophagitis or Barrett's oesophagus (intestinal metaplasia) documented from in-hospital and specialized outpatient care were selected from national patient registries in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden from 1980 to 2014. The study investigated all-cause mortality and disease-specific mortality, comparing patients who had undergone open or laparoscopic antireflux surgery with fundoplication versus those using antireflux medication.
Background & Aims: Absolute rates and risk factors of short-term outcomes after antireflux surgery remain largely unknown. We aimed to clarify absolute risks and risk factors for poor 90-day outcomes of primary laparoscopic and secondary antireflux surgery.
Methods: This population-based cohort study included patients who had primary laparoscopic or secondary antireflux surgery in the 5 Nordic countries in 2000-2018.
Objective: The aim of this study was to clarify whether antireflux surgery prevents laryngeal and pharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
Summary Background Data: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) seems to increase the risk of laryngeal and pharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
Methods: All-Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) population-based cohort study of adults with documented GERD in 1980 to 2014.
Background: Several recent studies reported bone mineral density (BMD) reduction in pediatric patients with idiopathic hypercalciuria (IH). This longitudinal study aimed to evaluate BMD evolution in IH patients through three bone densitometry studies conducted over 20 years on average. A second objective was to evaluate urine calcium and citrate excretion during this period.

This study aimed to examine the hypothesis that antireflux surgery decreases the risk of small cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the lung differently depending on their location in relation to micro-aspiration.
Methods: Population-based cohort study including patients having undergone antireflux surgery during 1980-2014 in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden.
Background: Both medication and surgery are effective treatments for severe gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). Postoperative risks have contributed to decreased use of antireflux surgery. The aim of this study was to assess short-term mortality following primary laparoscopic fundoplication.

To identify further susceptibility loci for this common, complex skin disease, we performed a meta-analysis of >15 million genetic variants in 21,399 cases and 95,464 controls from populations of European, African, Japanese and Latino ancestry, followed by replication in 32,059 cases and 228,628 controls from 18 studies. We identified ten new risk loci, bringing the total number of known atopic dermatitis risk loci to 31 (with new secondary signals at four of these loci).

The purpose of these analyses was to understand the clinical impact and cost considerations of a prescription assistance program targeting low-income, minority patients with diabetes and at high risk for cost-related medication nonadherence.
Methods: Patients received diabetes medications without copayments for 12 months.
Objectives: The aim of our study was to compare the diagnostic performances of non-radiating whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (wbMRI), either volumetric, with Volumetric interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) or metabolic, with diffusion-weighted sequences (wbMRI), with classical irradiating techniques such as PET-CT, CT and with lymph node ultrasonography (US) for the staging of advanced melanoma.
Patients And Methods: Thirty-seven melanoma AJCC stage IV patients were prospectively included. All images were independently interpreted without prior knowledge of the results of studies performed with concurrent techniques, and all imaging techniques were scheduled within a mean interval of 7 days.
The number of bariatric operations performed each year is increasing. As a result, a rising number of patients in possible need for revisional surgery are referred to bariatric surgeons. But the standard methods of evaluation are often insufficient, and the best strategy remains difficult to choose.

Methods: All patients had a serum creatinine measured. GFR was calculated according to the Schwartz formula.
Objective: To study the capacity of renal acidification in a group of children diagnosed of idiopathic hypercalciuria.
Patient And Methods: 36 children were studied, to those that were determined the pCO2 (UpCO2) maximum urinary with two different stimuli, acetazolamide and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). At 33 of them, was performed an acidification test with frusemide stimulus.
