Background: Traffic-related air pollution especially in highly socioeconomically developed megacity is usually considered as a severe problem leading to inevitable adverse health outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the associations between traffic-related air pollutants with risk of dry eye disease (DED) outpatient visits in a megacity (Guangzhou) along the subtropical coast in South China.
Methods: Daily data on DED outpatient visits and environmental variables from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2020 in Guangzhou were obtained.
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the leading causes of adult blindness in the United States. Although studies applying traditional statistical methods have revealed that heavy metals may be essential environmental risk factors for diabetic retinopathy, there is a lack of analyses based on machine learning (ML) methods to adequately explain the complex relationship between heavy metals and DR and the interactions between variables. Based on characteristic variables of participants with and without DR and heavy metal exposure data obtained from the NHANES database (2003-2010), a ML model was developed for effective prediction of DR.

Methods: Diabetic Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats induced with STZ were treated with capsaicin or AAV-poldip2-shRNA, and human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRMECs) were treated with capsaicin or poldip2 siRNA.
Meteorological variables are regarded as risk factors for inflammatory diseases, but their associations with uveitis, one of the leading causes accounting for blindness worldwide with an estimated prevalence of 38-714 cases/100,000 person-years, have not been thoroughly investigated. The present study explored the short-term association between meteorological variables and hospital admissions for uveitis in Hefei City, China. Daily data on uveitis hospital admissions and meteorological variables including mean temperature (MT) (°C), diurnal temperature range (DTR) (°C), and relative humidity (RH) (%), from 2014 to 2020, were collected.
