The American Heart Association recently published an updated algorithm for quantitative assessments of cardiovascular health (CVH) metrics, namely Life's Essential 8 (LE8). This study aimed to compare the predictive value between Life's Simple 7 (LS7) and LE8 and predict the likelihood of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to determine the utility of the LE8 in predicting CVH outcomes. A total of 339 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who had undergone PCI were enrolled to assess the CVH scores using the LS7 and LE8.

  • Over the past decade, scarlet fever has posed a significant economic burden in China, particularly affecting children aged 0-9 years, with two annual peaks in incidence.
  • The study utilized advanced statistical models to predict the number of cases in 2020 and found that the actual incidence was significantly lower than expected due to the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The analysis revealed a substantial reduction in scarlet fever cases, with an 80.74% decrease in 2020, highlighting the effectiveness of NPIs like canceling public events in controlling the disease.

Background: To identify the high-risk pollutants and evolving patterns of attributed mortality burden, more detailed evidence is needed to examine the contribution of different air pollutants to death across the disease spectrum, particularly considering population change as well as the context of the era.

Methods: We explored the evolving patterns of all-cause and disease-specific deaths attributed to overall air pollution and its main subcategories by using the estimated annual percentage change and additionally assessing the contribution of population growth and ageing to death burden using the decomposition method. Age-period-cohort model and Joinpoint analysis were used to evaluate birth cohort effects specific-disease death burden owing to high-risk air pollution subcategories.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between air pollution and healthcare-seeking behaviors among domestic migrants in China, addressing a gap in existing research.
  • Utilizing data from the 2017 China Migrants Dynamic Survey and official air pollution indicators, the researchers applied probit regression models to analyze the impact of air pollution on decisions to seek healthcare.
  • The results revealed that increased air pollution correlates with a higher likelihood of avoiding health facilities, influenced by factors like work stress, self-reported health status, migration distance, health education, local belonging, and pre-existing health conditions.

Background: Workplace violence is internationally recognised as a major concern for the workforce, which entails serious consequences, and research shows that medical residents are more likely than other doctors to experience violence in the workplace. This study first examines the effectiveness of simulation-based medical education, and then simulation-based medical education combined with behavioural economics as interventions in medical residents' perception of, attitude toward, and self-efficacy in coping with violence in the workplace.

Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used, 190 participants were randomised into three study groups to respectively test the effect of simulation-based medical education only and simulation-based medical education plus behavioural economics interventions, compared with a control group.
