Porous activated carbons (AC-AN and AC-AO) for toluene adsorption were prepared starting from brewer's grain biomass pretreated with microorganisms ( van Tieghem for AC-AN and RIB40 for AC-AO). The structures and chemical properties of the three activated carbon materials (AC-AN, AC-AO, and AC that was not pretreated with microorganisms) were characterized by N adsorption-desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Ferredoxin 1 and 2 (FDX1/2) constitute an evolutionarily conserved FDX family of iron-sulfur cluster-containing proteins. FDX1/2 are cognate substrates of ferredoxin reductase and serve as conduits for electron transfer from NADPH to a set of proteins involved in biogenesis of corticosteroids, hemes, iron-sulfur cluster, and lipoylated proteins. Chemotherapy based on oxaliplatin (OXA) is the first-line treatment for advanced colorectal cancer (CRC), and acquired resistance to OXA is the main reason for clinical treatment failure in CRC. To search for compounds that can reverse OXA resistance, we screened a small molecule inhibitor drug library and identified a drug, Raddeanin A (RA), that enhanced the anticancer effect of OXA. Using human CRC cell lines, CRC organoid models, and subcutaneous tumorigenic studies, we determined that RA inhibits the proliferation of CRC cells by promoting apoptosis and inducing cell cycle arrest.

Pollen formation and development during the life cycle of flowering plant are crucial for maintaining reproductive and genetic diversity. In this study, an R2R3MYB family transcription factor, SlTDF1 (SlMYB35), was predominantly expressed in stamens. Repressed expression of SlTDF1 results in a delay in the degradation of the anther tapetum in tomatoes, which in turn leads to the formation of abnormal pollen, including a reduction in the number of single-fruit seeds and fertility when compared to wild-type plants.
